Cleaning up the hand-rubbed finish on a blade...

Hopefully going to go try that later tonight! Never thought to lock the block down and move the knife... interesting.
 
Man, I'm with Matt. Never even thought of the moving the blade, not the block. One question. If you have a flat grind (on the rare occasion I achieve it), would you still want the leather or just a flat block of Micarta wrapped with the paper? Just curious your thoughts on this...

When I do my H-R finish on blade, I do it with the blade clamped to the bench and a piece of wood with leather. The same set-up as this, just reversed because at that point in making the knife, there is no handle to get damaged from clamping. I use hard leather and it's just enough cushion to mold to you blade profile and make a smooth finish. The leather won't alter your blade enough to loose flat.
