Cleaning up the spine of a Mora?

I have a few Moras I'd like to put a square edge on the spines. I've seen many comments here of people who have squared the spines of their Moras.

Have any advice for me? I figured I'd use my dremel or a file. I have no idea what I'd use other than those.

How should I do it? I don't have a vice is that a problem?)

Thanks!

some sand paper on a 2x4 or the edge of your desk will work as well.

Sandpaper on glass, I have also used a flat benchstone.

I wouldn't use the dremel as it will remove the metal SO fast that mistakes would be pretty easy.

i've used a file, a belt sander, and coarse stones...they have all worked well.

if you don't have a vise, i suggest taping up the edge with a few layers of masking tape, to help reduce the chance for injury.

do you have something like a C-clamp, along with a table that has a vertical lip around the edge? if you did, you could use the C-clamp the clamp the blade against the vertical part of the table, so that the spine is above the surface of the table. then it would be easier to file.

but if you don't have any way of securing the blade, then you can still do it freehand without too much trouble.

Great advice! Thanks all.

I hadn't considered any of those. For some reason I thought it would be harder than you're making it out to be.

I would go with the file. It is quick and easy, and the file will help you make it square, and not accidentally round it off with the dremel.

Oh, yeah, definitely clamp it down, by whatever means.

Use a single cut mill file and clamp it down, even if you have to improvise a clamp. Mac

I squared the first couple of inches near the handle for ferro rod use and I just used the diamond file on my Leatherman and freehanded it. It literally took a couple of minutes and I was throwing sparks like crazy.
