Clear rust coating

I just ordered my first khuk and since I intend to use it in wet conditions (camping) I was going to blue the blade to prevent rust. However the finish on the blade is so nice it would be a shame to cover it up.

Does anyone know of a coating that is clear (maybe some kind of epoxy based coating)?
 
a few coats of Johnson's floor wax applied to a very warm blade, repeated. ( Then wipe regularly with Tuff Cloth. )
 
Break Free CLP is an excellant rust preventative. ( see the latest issue of Gun Tests) For a clear, non oily coating regular old automotive wax works well.

If you decide to blue the blade Brownell's Oxpho Blue is the best there is. It imparts a deep black finish and is more durable that the Birchwood Casey bluing solutions.

These blades rust very easily. If you got your knife as a user you will really want to consider some kind of a finish in conjunction with he Break Free and or car wax.

I'm going to try browning my latest villager and see how that works.
 
A good quality liquid car wax works really well. Repells water, won't rub off in the scabbard. How well it holds up to chopping, I don't know, but certainly it will stand abuse better than Tuff cloth or any oil/liquid protectant. Makes blades really shiny, too!

The guys are quite correct.
When I got my Delta Scroll Saw the company recommended Johnson Paste Wax to proect the cast iron table from rusting.
Having worked with cast iron castings for a number of years in the early days of my shop time I found that stuff rusts just about quicker than anything else.
The table on my saw is still rust free and it's about 3 years old now I think. I give it a fresh coat every year or thereabouts.

I would suggest taking along something that can be easily reapplied after use. For me it is Rust Check or Krown on a sponge in a ziploc bag. The food grade silicone would make a lot more sense if you plan to use the khukuri in food preparation.
