Ask, and ye shall receive....

:D

IIRC, it was Cliff's brother who repeatedly sharpened it, and eventually broke it.

Jerry, if you ever want to test a new blade out, i'm your man. Frozen conditions, marathon chopping sessions, trench digging, root cutting.

second to you , if Jerry wanta test his new pro in Nortern china, i can do that .

:D

I got one of them user B7's. It's the bomb. Previous user(s) stripped it, attempted to sand out the MINFI-Dimples and beat on the edge. I brought the edge back to life (shaving sharp on that asym edge) and think it's the bees neez.

Lol .... you must have gone WAAAY back to find this thread Dingy .... especially if you have'nt got a search facility ..... :D

My single biggest "regr..." is not picking up Dennis's full set of Basic's .... it was a sad error ... otherwise I would have had a Basic 7 to play with as well .... :foot: and I bet he wishes he had still got them ....

Gee, I don't know how to feel about this, Jerry, even if it is old news. I never thought mortal man could give a Basic a "dirt nap", rendering it back to its primordial elemental state. After watching the Noss D-tests, the fallability of INFI is something I never considered. Maybe you could give us assurance that you accept the Cliff challenge, and are revisiting the mettalurgical "drawing board" to develop an even-more indestructible composition?

And the other picture of Cliff's infamous BB7, with the suicide note in the background.

Enjoy amigos!!

IIRC, it was Cliff's brother who repeatedly sharpened it, and eventually broke it.
The voices in my head recall that his brother was the one who attempted to strip the coating off with a Dremel (streaks shown in pic with other knife) as well as generally beating the crap out of it and being *very* nonchalant about how he used or maintained the Basic 7 while it was under his control.

IIRC it was Cliff who, as is his wont, did many sharpenings of the knife trying out different angles to see which one(s) would give him the best cutting or chopping, depending on what test he was doing that day. I seem to recall that Cliff broke the BB7 hitting it with a hatchet (steel-on-steel) while chopping up some frozen wood, maybe trying to power his way past a knot with the edge. Cliff often would talk about how the stunted wood in his area was pretty knotty and how knives would bind as the wood grain changed direction and density around the knots.

If I'm mis-remembering the circumstances of the broken Basic 7, I trust one of the Hogs willo correct me, please. Unfortunately, I didn't archive the info from his old site.

You probably remember it better than I.

Yes, shame that his site is dead, and lost as a resource. :(

If he (Cliff) has a local copy of the site I wouldn't mind hosting it. Anyone have an email address for him?

Yeah, but you don't need a hammer Mike. :D

Your

Mouth!

:D

I've recovered the user B7 and a B9 that I then sold AGAIN. There are days I lust for the 5. The 9 is a great knife, but I really had to pare stuff down. My Basic 5 was the sharpest knife I've ever encountered. Hair would run away for fear of being split with it. But the overall package just didn't do it for me. (That and it was PERFECT. Smooth coat, asym edge, zero use. I could never use it.)
