Clip less carry in the office - pocket sheaths?

When working from home I can carry whatever I like, but returning to a more corporate office I tend to be more subtle.

Now I love pocket clipped folders, but sometimes I don't want the clip the show. But when the folder lays flat in my pocket I really don't like feeling the weight and pocket bulge. If I happen to be wearing Dockers pants, they have great vertical pocket inside the main pants pockets that holds folders uprigh. But jeans... The knife falls horizontally and annoys me.

What do you do? Is there a folder equivalent of a pocket gun holster that sits squarely in the pocket and keeps the knife vertical? I don't want something that will just flop horizontally and be the same as the bare knife.

depends on the knife actually, i have a Spyderco chaparral, small enough closed, big enough open and the wire clip makes it a really good money clip.
thanks for listening, Troy

I carry most of my folders without clipping them to my pockets. Whether or not they go flat and bulge depends on the size and weight, and what jeans you wear. For example, a Hinderer XM18 is fine, an XM24 not so much (obviously :) ); Spyderco PM2 is OK, and even the Military with Aramis scales, but the stock Military not (different shape and .25 inches longer) .... For the big folders, I have Wranglers with knife pockets (there are several types). I also have some heavy leather rectangles, that I can clip knives to, to stuff rectangle + knife together in my pocket (I found knife sheaths make the entire package too fat).

Roland.

Viper Novis is big enough it stay put pretty well unless I'm wearing linen shorts or workout pants/shorts. It's fine in my khakis.

Clipless, small leather lanyard.

You can commission lots of great leather workers to create a pocket slip with a pocket clip on it. That way your knife is in a slip and it’s clipped to your pocket at the same time.

At home I usually carry my CRK’s in a slip or anywhere where I won’t really be need it much but carry it anyways.

If the OP doesn't want the knife clip visible, I doubt he'd want a visible sheath clip.

Daniel L Daniel L have you considered IWB carry? The clip would be covered by a belt, if worn.

Good point... Outside of fixed blades, I've never carried ied folders IWB.
The reason I'm thinking of pocket type sheath /organizer is because I have some larger slipjoints that I'd like to carry too.

I had been searching for "pocket sheath" when really the right term is "pocket organizer" and more I'm seeing leather and nylon options!

Pocket organizers are a thing. They can help to control gear orientation, keep gear from mashing together, and expand useful pocket capacity as a result. There are lots of shapes and designs. How well it works will depend on the particular organizer, the stuff you carry, the shape of your pocket, etc. Like other aspects of EDC, it can take a little trial and error to find the right setup.

I've found that a good pocket organizer can encourage carrying more gear. For instance, organizers tend to align items vertically. Since creating stability usually involves spanning horizontal space, you'll get more than one slot. So you might load it with some combination of a knife, pen, flashlight, Bic lighter, multi-tool, etc.

There are lots of options in leather. If you want something lighter, the Arc Company makes different designs with Nylon. I sometimes use their Quickdraw mini-organizer to keep a Bic lighter and Leatherman Squirt lined up in my fifth pocket.

I sew an extra pocket in my khakis. It is 2" x 5" and is sewn on the right side in my right back pocket. It is a "pocket in a pocket". It allows my knife to ride vertically, next to my wallet. It's easy to access my knife and completely hidden. I don't feel it when I sit because it's so far over.

This can also be done with a front pocket or use 2 or 3 safety pins to make a small " pocket in a pocket".

Are we getting into pocket protector territory here, I just use leather slips for my traditionals, you could always just get a knife with a deep carry clip that looks like a pen, like the CRKT CEO type of knives, lots of companies are making those thin office style knives now that look like pens.
I carry my Spyderco Chaparral around in very non knife friendly enviroments, it just has a little wire clip nobody even pays attention to it. You're going to have to get a pocket protector type of dealy, but that seems like a lot of effort to take out, you might as well just carry it in your bag at that point.

I use one of these pocket organizers. I carry it in the front right pocket.
This one is was listed as "extra large", but they come in all sizes.

When you shop for one check the specs and read the reviews. Some are listed as leather but aren't.

The one pictured is leather and you can fit medium and larger sized folders. That's a Buck 110 in the picture.
The brand is "diodrio" , extra large $16.

I wear a suit to the office most days, and almost always carry IWB. With a deep-carry clip, it's definitely the most discrete way to carry.

The other option is to have a clip that doesn't look like a knife clip. For example, the Massdrop Gent's clip looks just like a pen clip, which shouldn't raise any hackles in an office setting. You can buy similar aftermarket clips for common hole patterns, but how well they work would depend on how deep the knife carries with a particular clip.

As far as sheathes, you could try something like MKM's pocket sheath, which uses a magnetic flap rather than a metal clip, which should be less obvious and less damaging to your pants. It's $25, so a lot cheaper than a lot of the "EDC organizer" type sheathes you'll see.

For what it's worth, I've stopped clipping my knives to my pocket too, and now tend to carry larger knives that are simply too big to fall sideways.

I carry my small sebenza, as well as a maratac aaa and a space pen, in a hitch and timber mini engineer. The mini engineer is 4" wide so it takes up the whole pocket.

More power to you if you like rear pocket carry.

I don’t. The less I have in my rear pockets, the better. Lower back problems, and all that.

I have a Benchmade 531 that works well with slacks/suits.

I hate Sh*t in my front pockets. I try not to have my keys, or phone in them..... the less the better.
I'm ok forgetting my phone at home or losing it. But I'll feel naked (in a bad way) without a knife.

I learned that with horizontal carry in a leather pouch, mine is made/sold by KSF.... I can carry a benchmade folder with a 3.5" long blade. I believe its called the large belt pouch or something like that? It's nice and good leather, I sealed it, and it's fairly dark. I'd definitely buy another.
I can take pictures if you want.

we have a strict policy at work, and it looks like Im a I.T. dork with a glasses case on my belt.
