Clip or no Clip?

That is the ? Do you use the pocket clip or do you remove it? I was carrying my Native with the clip but have removed it to test it out - I've found in the short term that it is more comfortable to use sans clip.

There are times to clip and times to slip and some knives are better slippers than clippers.

For the past couple of months I've been carrying SAKs exclusively, but when I do carry large folders I prefer clips to keep the knife lint-free and weightless. I'm going to try to get a SAK sheath for those reasons.

after months of carrying slip-joints and neck knives (I still have a SAK in my pocket). But I got tired of the Prairie Fox jingling on my keychain. And here in CA a fixed blade is legal only if it's carried openly on the belt (the little TOPS was hanging from my belt in plain sight). If I could carry one under a tee shirt I'd probably have a Bark River on my left hip. But I don't like to tuck in my shirts so it's a folder or a neck knife on my keychain. Right now I've got a BM 800 (lefty :D ) clipped to my pocket. If I could find the right fixed blade I might be willing to give up the clip.

I just about always clip a folder in my pocket. Keeps the knife easily at hand, always in the same place, yet out of the way.

I keepthe clips on. I like to clip folders to my pants / webbing etc. Also, I find that most new one-handed folders rely on the presence of the clip to add grip when opening / closing the knife - subtle, but noticeable when its not there) I also find that when I've removed clips, I've inadvertently damaged the screws / tapped holes, making it difficult to replace it.

However, SOME clips are EVIL ! I had a folder with a very short clip that got bent so it stuck out a bit. While using it, I stabbed the knife into something hard, and the tip of the clip ripped into my hand and took a piece of palm with it.

;) Jason.

With large folders I'd say clips are essential. With smaller knives like the Spyderco Native I tend to carry it in the pocket more often that not. I still leave the clip on however. I never clip to the back pocket anymore, I've ripped out 2 clips this way and damaged furniture, car paint and seat covers.

Clipped. I've tried not clipped loose in the pocket, small slip cases and belt sheaths and for my general EDC knife it needs to be clipped. The clip keeps it easily accessible and always in the same place. You do run some risk of loosing a knife due to the clip getting caught though. Never had that happen to a good knife and never where the knife wasn't recovered. I have a habit of always running my hand along the pocket edge to feel for the clip so if it ever does happen I'll know right away.

I have to use a clip. I wear two kinds of pants.
A: slacks with pockets so low I can reach in up to my elbow, or
2: Tight pants who's pocket depths I can't reach because of their tight tightness.

Oh, and to whomever mentioned fixed blades: you can conceal one up to 4in

I have been using and loving the pocket clips on my knives since my first Benchmade ATFC. I find that a knife clipped in the back of the front pocket is much more comfortable than a knife down in the pocket. I have found that I can carry a much larger knife in comfort also. I also like not having to dig around in my pocket to get my knife. I can also clip it to my waist band when I am wearing something without pockets ie shorts, scrubs.

Been loving the clip since my first one, an old Spyderco Endura Zytel with the clip molded in the handle.
