The 5 was designed by SERE instructors to their specs. ESEE makes them to those specs. I guess they didnt think a clip point would help tearing through aircraft skin, etc. also i think it would not work as well with a 1/4 inch blade. it seems like the angle would be too steep and not effective.
Hey Mikieg,
Check out the TOPS Mountain Lion. It's 1095, 5.5" long, 1/4" thick, with sort of a swege. It is a recurve, has a nylon sheath, and G-10 handles. Worth checking out.
I own it, haven't used it really, so I can't review it. I've thought about selling it, cause I also have a BK2.
you never get "sumthin fer nuthin" the 5 (as i see it) was made to be capable of diggin through anything you needed to. working towards making this possible moves you in EXACTLY the opposite direction of making something with superior penetration.
an extreme example of what i'm saying would be the stilleto, a VERY EFFECTIVE penatrator that would snap in half if you tried to use for jobs that a "5" laughs at. two different tools for two different applications.
if i had to place a bet, i would lay money on ESEE never making a 5CP
I'd think a clip point would defeat the purpose of having such a thick and durable knife in the first place. Not to mention doubling the odds of cutting oneself while partaking in general asshatery.
