Not tip up or down Just where on the handle have you found to be the ideal position.

I remember Bob Taylor asking on the Forums whether tip-up or tip-down was preferred. The majority preferred tip-up and he made his knives that way.

I carry an AFCK and it is tip-down. For a liner-lock knife, I like tip-down. It seems to me to be safer. If the pivot screw loosens, a tip-up carry could start to open in the pocket. Sometimes the detent ball that holds the blade closed does not have enough tension. I saw a guy close his folder and go to clip his folder in his pocket. The tension was loose on the pivot screw and the blade swung open slightly and caught his pocket. Luckily, he caught himself and did not get cut.

I like deep pocket carry. The EDI Genesis has the best clip, reversible, deep-pocket, dark color. The clip mounted high at the end of the scale is good.

I have seen some makers mount the clip low. Their thinking is that a portion of the knife should stick out for easy grasping. This is not my preference. I draw my knife with thumb in pocket on knife just below the pivot area. My forefinger hooks the bottom of the clip pulling up, not squeezing in.

I think this is more then what you were asking. I like the clip mounted high to give a deep pocket carry, so that it is very low profile.

Thanks,
Damon

I do not like pocket clips. They detract from the beauty of the knife and feel funny in the hand. There have been several knives I have liked but shied away from because they had pocket clips. I think the clips should be an option and placed per individuals tastes.

If the clip isn't positioned high for deep pocket carry then to me it's useless. One case in point is the large Paragon Cobra. When clipped a good portion of the knife shows thus putting the kybosh on discreet carry. I want a clip where only a very small portion of the knife shows.

I'll vote for deep carry too, only I like to have at least a half inch of handle, maybe a little more, above the clip so you have something to get a hold of when your taking the knife out of your pocket.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

I vote for tip down (safety) and long deep pocket clip (mostly cuz I don't want it falling off). I use a waistband carry. I'd like a dark clip that is folded over on itself so that the fabric it gets clipped to is even with the top edge of the grip.

I have had both, tip up and tip down knives. Both have their advantages, as to where to put the clip on the handle. A low carry in the pocket is desirable, leave enough of the knife to grab. My Benchmade Leopard is a fairly good compromise. I have a love-hate relationship with pocket clips to begin with. They are convenient as hell, but clips detract from the beauty of the knife and feel awkward in the hand. That is just my opinion.

Under the pivot pin retaining screw like on Missions MPF (where by the way you can also put that clip I sent you Darrel, in case it doesn't fit where I drew it). This location requires fewer screws and no tapping and the knife still "rides" relatively deep. Or if the knife is an integral lock, somwhere where its at least parallel to the long portion of the lock cut-out. Also anywhere where the knife will "ride" deep.

One other thing about locating the clip underneath the pivot pin retaining screw is that if clip carry isn't desired, removal doesn't leave any extraneous holes in the knife handle. It will leave an obvious milled slot but this can be fixed w/some kind of cover like CRK offers for the Sebenza; and since its under the pivot pin it won't be that obvious.

Place the clip for deep carry and make the clip dark. I don't drawing attention to my knife. A low riding , dark clip is my ideal.

The clip on the EDI Genesis is IMHO the best design-I just love it-never gets in the way-deep carry-super strong-the best

While we are discussing clips, why are clips so long? Wouldn't 1/2" of clip be just as effective as a 1" or longer? A long clip also is a signal of what you are carrying. And yes, I prefer deep carry also. Removeable with no unsightly holes is also a good option.

I've got knives w/ both tip up and tip down. i like them both. i like deep clips too. my S&W OTF doesn't have a deep clip and feels like it's gonna fall out of my pocket.

I like the clip as close to the end as I can get it, making for carry as deep as possible.

I'm also starting to think that maybe an offset angle in the clip would eliminate "pocket pull".

(OK, I left that one teed up on purpose...)

Darrel,

I tend to prefer the pocket clip at the butt end because it keeps the tip of the clip away from the index finger area of the palm when cutting hard with the knife. I also think the tip, or end of the clip should be kept away from the spine of the handle. The basic idea being keeping the pointy parts of the clip away from the areas of the handle where the hand contacts it during hard cutting, not so much hard gripping, but hard cutting. If it were me, I would just move the clip around the handle until I found the most comfortable location while whittling big strips off of a stick. The Sebenza clip works really well in my opinion. The way the clip rests on the lock bar, the tip of it gets lowered a little bit when the blade is open.

I prefer tip up for an integral locking folder because the clip might get in the way of your grip reinforcing the locking bar.

I go with the deep concealment guys. as low as possible, dark clip and ,maybe something else: make it look less, well, knife like - if a good everyday knife has a clip that resembles a beeper - that's more then OK with me..

remember - the more surprises you got - the better are your chances..

It`s a good point about the clips not needing to be as long as they are.I have an Elishewitz Diablo, and one of the main reasons I got it was because of the short, stubby clip.It does not look like a knife clip and functions every bit as well as a long one.Maybe the next knife revolution should include clip styles.

I like tip down, deep carry clips. I am left handed so reversible clips are essential. A dark matte finish is good. I prefer a longer clip because I have already lost one knife that worked its way loose while sitting.
