CLIP POSITION ON THE HANDLE... COMMENTS

Hi Mr. Ralph,

Another vote for: Tip-up/deep pocket/matte clip.

I find this combination works very well for me.

Close to the bottom of the handle as possible, deep carry. Dark clip as well. Always wanted the clip to my M-6 to be black because that was one great carry knife.

My vote is for deep carry also, I also like the deep pocket clip that Pat Crawford puts on the Carnivour. Not too long and functions the same as an EDI clip.

My 2 cents on clips. I like the pocket clip idea, but also like to have the option to remove it. One of the best clip designs I have seen is on a Gerber LST. The clip goes through the lanyard hole is flared out by a screw in the opposite side. The clip is very tight, rides deep, and is only about an inch and a half long. Seems like a good idea for knives that already have a lanyard hole.

I have several opinions on pocket clips.

I like tip up. I carry my knife to the rear of my front pocket and the side of the pocket seems to me would keep the blade from opening. I also think the clip should be reversable with little screw in plugs to fill the holes that are not in use.

I also like deep pocket cary. I didn't think I would like the clip on my EDI but, I do.

The clip is, for the most part, the only piece of the knife that is ever seen so, it should look good, have some class, not look like an afterthought.

Darrel, the clip on the implus is outstanding! It clips securely and looks good too. If it were only tip up...

That's all I've got to say about that.

the knife has to have a clip, tip down is great on one you can open by "flicking" open like a gravity knife, BUT tip down works better one say a stainless spyderco because you can use you thumb and forefinger to grasp
the hole and pull it out and "flick down to
open.
those who want to "fide" there knife
or have a low ride clip are forgeting

another one sheathed."
but hey diffrent strokes for diffrent folks!!

As many others have suggested, I like a small clip set for deep-pocket tip-up carry. One other good feature is for the clip to be offset a bit to allow the clip to rest in the bottom back corner of angled pockets. That is, some pants I wear have a pocket that angles up quite a bit from the back. A wide clip set in the middle of the handle tends to slide down the edge of the pocket, causing the knife to turn a little in my pocket rather than lying flat. An offset clip, such as that on my Sebenza, rests deep in the corner without turning the knife.

Does that make sense? I think the extension on the bottom of the Apogee handle would lend itself very naturally to an offset clip for tip-up carry.

I also like a clip that sits as flat as possible against my pants, to reduce the chance of it catching on stuff I brush up against as I walk. And again, I don't see the need for clips as large as those used by most knife makers. Maybe you could provide buyers with a choice of clip sizes.
