Clip, schmipp... who needs it?

I ditched the clip on my Southard six weeks ago.
You know what? It doesn't mean a thing. I throw it in my pocket the same way I've carried knives for 50 years, and it's simply not a problem.
It's a superb knife; and it doesn't need a clip.

^^^^ Agreed, I use my knife to keep my lighter, money clip and what not from falling out of my pockets

Drives me crazy when a knife falls sideways in my pocket. I carry traditionals in my watch or jacket pocket but something as big as a Southard would be tough unless a lanyard kept it form falling.

Funny you show that on a southard. A few months ago I had loose pants on and for some reason, didn't clip my beloved Southard to my pocket. Evidently while climbing into my truck the knife slipped out and is now long gone. Now, I either make sure its clipped or use a sheath. Great knife - agreed - but I prefer at least a clip fwiw.

To each his own - I prefer a clip on a my pocket knife.
I even put clips on my knives, which dont have a clip from the factory.

I have other stuff in my pockets, a clip makes carrying a knife much easier.

Pretty much sums it up for me. I prefer clip to save space and because things tend to slip out of my pockets if not clipped. This is one reason that carrying traditionals which now go to a sheath on my belt.

Usually I leave clips on if they came with them. But I'm not against going clipless. For instance I think spyderco made the right move in making the GB Air clipless.

Knives are definitely more prone to sneak away from you with no clip though.

I've only lost one good knife...because (IMO) it was loose in my pocket. Now it's loose in someone else's pocket.

+1

In my jeans everything stays where it's at because they are tighter, but my dickies pants or cargo shorts are baggy and stuff falls out if my knife isn't clipped there.

I remove clips as well. I've shredded too many pockets carrying them clipped, plus it's difficult to put my hand in the pocket with a clipped knife. Never had a problem. Some clips create a hot spot when gripping the knife.

I removed the clip from my Spyderco Vallotton D/A. I belt carry it in a sheath I made.

All fine and dandy until your leg starts to bleed. Traditional pocket knives like I suspect the OP has carried and over the years became comfortable with the carry style works for a traditional but can be dangerous with modern cutlery. You just don't have the same level of blade retention and thus is much safer to be carried clipped or sheathed.

Personally I love the clip. I can't have my knife bouncing around in my pocket. It's even worse when the knife falls sideways and all of a sudden, I have this weird bulge from my pocket!

I don't actually use clips too much but I like them on a knife, it's handy if I want to put it IWB when wearing certain clothes.

I pocket carry most of my knives. But they are 3.5" or shorter, and weigh 2 oz. or less. With a larger knife, the weight moving around in the bottom of my pocket is really noticeable. The clip makes it much more effortless to carry.

the only time I've ever lost a clip knife was when I un-clipped it and put it in suit slacks pocket. I now put them in my jacket pocket. I like the clip...a good clip. I have the Benchmade 275 Adamas...great knive, whimpy clip. I suspect that one is more like a Buck 110 and they really don't expect a lot of clip carry.
