Clipless Anyone?

Is there anyone else out there that takes the pocket clips off their folders? I find that it never helps the ergos and I always carry in pocket. I carry the knife in my pocket in a sort of tip-down fashion and when I reach into my pocket I come out with a full grip on the knife.

I've been trying to carry a new Sebenza with the clip because it doesn't bother me as much as some others ergonomics-wise, but it feels a little awkward to me now and I don't like having the knife hanging out of my pocket, even if it's only that little bit...

Just wonderin'!

If it's a smaller blade I will carry clipless. Larger blades seem to bother me if they are just floating around in my pocket.

I like clips. I find I can use them to grab onto with my pinky and ring finger when opening and closing a knife. This way I know my fingers are out of the way of the closing blade and don't have to look down to make sure I'm not about to take the tip of my finger off. I also would not want to carry a larger knife in my pocket because they turn side ways and become uncomfortable and funny looking in your pocket.

I do carry one knife inside my pocket that is smaller and I use the clip as a money clip. The knife is very beat up now and I would only use a knife with a closed back (no stand offs or 'pillar' construction) so that other things don't get in the back to dull and nick the knife. I would not want to use a nice knife inside my pocket only to have it get beat up and subject to accelerated wear (at least looks wise).

I have been EDCing either a Strider PT or Spyderco Leafstorm with a lanyard and no clip deep in pocket for sometime now. I am getting a large Sebenza or Umnumzaan and will do the same with it. I never worry about losing it when snagging the clip on equipment at work. It works for me!

Personally I'm over clips. When they first came out pretty much every folder I bought for 15 years had to have a clip. It took me too long to realize I really don't like carrying in my front pocket, or inside the waist band. I've taken the clips off a few of my knives and like them better that way. Of the dozen knives I've purchased in 2010 and not one has a clip. I do have a couple of clippies I use but those are for specific situations like when wearing swimtrunks or loose shorts with an elastic waist band.

All my knives are deep carry front right, take most of the clips off and have lock bar stabilizers put in on models requiring such as many models use the clip as dual purpose with the secondary emphasis on lock bar stabilization. I don't like clips and don't use them but I see their place.

I used to be all about clips but after a while I got tired of them. Yeah they are convenient but also they dig into my hand when I pull my keys out. Another reason I stopped using them was that I was getting dirty looks from people once they realized I was carrying a knife. Yeah my BM barrage and Spydie Endura can be a pain floating around in my pocket but its worth the trade off.

The only knife I have with a clip on it is one that I occasionally use as a money clip. Clipping on pockets - not for me, thanks.

None of my knives have clips to begin with. :D

If any of them did, I would promptly remove them.

Now, if I were in law enforcement, military, construction, fire fighting, etc., where I could see needing quick or easy blade deployment, then I'd consider using a folding knife with a clip attached.

Gotta have a tip up clip on my knife. I've tried carrying without the clip and I just don't like it. I need a knife with a clip in my RFP. Anthing else just doesn't work for me.

Same here. My PXL is clipped, everything else I currently carry is smaller and is either clipless from the mfg. or has the clip removed.

They say it takes a week to break a habit? So I've been on vacation for a week and I carried in my pocket, so monday I go back to work breakout my new BM 745, It wasnt 20 minutes the clip got sprung on a machine.now its back to cliplessness!

clipless is way more comfortable to hold for certain knives (Lochsa), but then again on some knives it doesn't seem to get in the way (TNT). It really depends on the clip; I'd say.

I dis like clips also. Never understood how they became so popular. I take them off muself. Glad to hear there are so many who do the same!

I'm thinking about going clipless too. it's in the way, adds pressure points to your hand when gripping and I had my knives snag on it sometimes too, pulling them out of my pocket.

My daughter pickpocketed my knife out of my pocket once too...(at 3 years of age)

I only take off the clip if I don't want people spotting the knife clipped to the pocket.
Generally, I can't stand the knife roaming freely in the pocket. Got enough junk in there taking up pocket space. Plus the knife might get scratched up, heaven forbid

+1
I always use a clip. It's easier when you pull your knife out literally every five minutes to cut something. And you don't want to leave it laying on the pier/dock because it might get knocked into the water. (I fish A LOT.) About every other day. (With dozens of other fishermen.) Most bring their own blade, but sometimes forget. I loan blades to those guys because they are very respectful of everyones property.

Also it's nice if your ever need it quickly for any emergency.
