Clipless Anyone?

I love the feel of most of my folders w/o the clip but most (except the BM 940) are too darn big and make for a very poor, loose/clunky carry.

I had thought about a steel ball bearing, monkey fist lanyard, to keep them upright and ready to pull out but haven't tried that. I fear that will open another whole can of worms anyways - so it'll have to be pocket clips for me! :)

I take off, or do not use the clips on some of my knives. I use my wifes sewing machine to stitch a pocket where my knife sits. That way my knife stays put in my pocket.

I put a vertical stitch on the right hand side of my right pockets about 2.5 inches wide, only up to where the pocket material runs into the demim material. Its really only a 3 inch straight line stitched in.

Works great and is simple to do. Although I had to ask my wife to show me how to operate her sewing machine.

I don't use the clips because I also mod my pockets. But I carry in my back pocket. I sew a vertical seam (see the black line) along the right side about 3" from the pocket's edge:

I've never lost a knife carrying this way and as you can see from the pic I often carry a large lockback (Schrade LB7). I've done this mod to most of my pants and shorts.

Great mod! I've also got to admit that I have a mod in my pants. LOL! I wear Blackhawk pants and shorts pretty much exclusively unless I've got slacks or a suit on. I don't think they make those yet. LOL!

Inside of the RFP they have a pocket within the pocket sewn in to the pant on the material closet to your leg. It forms a similar amount of space as what you did. Holds the knife upright and makes it easily accessible. Hold big ass knives still too. Millie's, Umnum, Sebenza, SNG.

Works well and the pants aren't all "tacticool" looking. They're just cargo pants. Look good in a business casual or out and about situation.

Ya, like this! Glad to see Im not the only one doing it. But I do this on the front right pocket on the inside, so you cant see the stitching

I go back and forth with my sebenza and mnandi.

Currently the sebenza is clipped and the mnandi is not.

I usually stitch it in thread that matches but these are just shorts for yard work so the contrast wasn't an issue.

Depends where I am and what I am doing. Unclipped at work, clipped on weekends or if I am doing something active (like riding my bike).

I usually take the clip off and carry my larger folders (RSK, etc) in a belt sheath.

I lost knives by using the clips and having them fall out of my pocket when getting in/out of cars.

For those of you that remove the clip from your Sebenza, do you put that little insert in as a replacement? I also would like to remove the clip from my small Seb. but those clip inserts are spendy with shipping. I know, I paid $300+ for the blade.

I carry either my ZT 0301 or ZT 0350, clip-less, in a horizontal belt-sheath. I used to carry my folders clipped inside my left front pocket, but that's where I carry my keys, so that didn't work too well.

The only knife I have with the clip still attached is a Mnandi--and that's because it makes the grip a bit thicker--I don't clip it anywhere.

I have one of those clip inserts I purchased for my small sebenza. Didn't seem to fit quite right. It wasn't flush with the scale and then there was that screw there on one side of the knife for no reason. I took it off and don't put them on any of my Sebenzas even though I do still have it. Wouldn't even care to try on my large Sebenza, though it might fit in there better.

I will tell you what I do do. Whenever I get a Sebenza there always seems to be two small marks on the knife from where the clip rested. I send them back to get refinished so they're perfect.

I USE my knives. I won't really admit that I have any safe queens. LOL! Eventually they get scratched or the finish fades, but I like to know that I did it myself.

Hope that helps! The Small Sebenza is a great stick in your pocket knife!

The Mnandi is such a beautiful knife! And such a beautiful clip as well! Gotta admit I took the clip off that one too though... Just feels like using a Case knife to me without it.

Going to a wedding tomorrow. Maybe I'll take that one...

The one-handers I've been carrying most on workdays are a Pacific Salt, and a Tasman Salt or Atlantic Salt. I keep the clips on all of them, but they're so thin I just drop them into the pocket. I find the clip helps to give my fingers a better grip when opening the knife. Also, I like to clip one of them to the seatbelt when I'm driving.

I'm not really anti-clip, but the pants I wear for work are of a material that the pocket wears like heck when use the clip, even on a smoothe-handled knife. If they were tougher material, I might clip a smoothe folder, but others, like FRN or G-10, I like them thin/light enough for down-in-pocket carry.
