I have never made a knife like this before which started out to be a skinner but when I got to the grinder this morning the creativity thing kicked in. (Or maybe it was too much coffee.) I wondered about a clip grind on the top of the blade and just couldn't help myself; I just had to see how it would look. This is the result which still can be used as a skinner. If you have some strong opinions about this design I would sure like to hear them.

The steel is 3/16 inch ATS34 heat treated to 58-60 Rc. Heat and cryogenic quench done by D'Alton Holder.

The knife is slightly heavy to the handle and with the low center of gravity in this design it lays in the hand with the edge facing down and ready to use. I ground a slight taper to the tang to help achieve this balance.

Hand sewn leather scabbard included.

Overall length 9 inches; blade 4 3/8 inches. Handle material is rosewood.

$150 plus $6 SOLDshipping to the lower 48. Accepting Paypal, money order or check if you don't mind waiting for it to clear before I ship.

I like the upper grind you put in there. I think it looks good the way you have it. You made a good decision. I know how that is, you start getting creative then sometimes it works other times it doesn't. This time it worked!

Second Ray:thumbup:.When I saw Clipped spear point I thought what the heck and clicked on the pics.Nice knife, creativity.

Doug:)

Really nice. Whole package works really well. I think you must have hit some fibonacci ratios -- the visual balance is perfect.

I like it too---a very fine piercing point that should still be very strong with that geometry. I'd definitely keep this design in your reportiore.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Knife people are the best. I believe the help we give to each other is very unique to our trade.

Blade magazine has been running arcticles entitled "My Mentor" so I wrote up a short one (rejected) to explain that I have had scores of mentors and could not pick out one or two people. Every time I talk to another knife maker and sometimes to my customers, I learn something. I have been invited to makers shops to help with a problem or just to swap tips and learn from each other. What a great bunch of people! I guess that I am rambling here and should be on a different area. Thanks again guys.

Gerry, I got the knife today and it is spectacular. To say I'm pleased would be an undrstatment. I went over it very critically and I can't find anything to bitch about
I'm going to be looking for your posts from now on.:D
