I haven't had any paint scratches, but I did scuff the leather when I was carrying a folder in my back pocket. Since then I no longer carry a folder in my back pocket.
 
I scratched the heck out of ms nomads hood with a tape measure I had clipped in my pocket. Learned my lesson!
 
I scratched my car too. Has not yet happened with a wire clip.(British Penkinfe). Hopefully more will come with wire clips.
