Clips Be Gone!?!?!?

I cannot carry a belt sheath where I work and I generally do not like them unless it is for a fixed blade. They catch on things and are generally in the way. That is why I like clips. They keep teh knife up and out of the detritus that collects in the bottom ofa pocket; change, lint, and other things which can "gum up the works". I think that clips are the best way to carry a folder, and will not consider a knife w/o one.

Given the choice I would pick a knive with
a clip over one that does not every time. As a matter of fact I have not purchased a couple of folders for that reason. I find it very convient to have a clip on the knife. Maybe because of the way I carry them. Anyway
my personal perference.

I prefer knives to be in a sheath over the clip, but then I also keep a knife clipped to my pocket as well as one on the belt, usually the Spyderco hawkbill knife. I find that if you use a sheath that has the knife accessible without a flap you can draw the knife faster than if it was in your pants pocket, also if you are sitting down it's hard to reach into your pocket where as on the belt you can reach it.

The Sebenza's work well in this type of carry, the butterfly's work better and are really fast to take out and use. The Kershaw Random Task, you can pull the knife clear of the sheath and open it in the blink of an eye. Clips are sometimes necessary, but I'd opt for without it when I can.

I just got a lovely knife, William Henry, that doesn't come with a clip, he also makes a line with carbon fiber scales that has a nice clip that goes with the knife well. I've yet to make a sheath for my WH but I carry it everyday in my shirt pocket in its pouch sheath that it came with, everyone just oohss and aaahss when they see it, so I'll just pop a photo here for you to see!

If you need a sheath for your folder, send me an email and we can talk it over.

I had to send a small and medium Apogee back to Darrel Ralph as soon as I recieved them today. Why? Because he had accidentally installed clips on them.

I hope he has them back to me soon so that I can have a few sheathes made in time for summer

Clips bug me. There an add on the is a nessasary evil. the new impulse by Outdoor Edge has a built into the handle clip. You can grab the handle and not feel the clip. It is also designed to look like part of the design ... not an add on.

On the Apogee I have desined a nice clip also that will be availble on future models.. It looks like it belongs to the knife.

Take a look!!!

Darrel, I hope you don't take my latest clip post as a knock. I just wanted to demonstrate how strongly I feel. After all, if I can ship two knives as nice as the Apogee back because of them, I must really hate the clip.

If you could have seen the look of pain on my face as I repacked the knives, cursing this clip craze and what it has driven fine people like Darrel to

The clips Darrel provided do match the knife quite well, definitely making the best of an almost necessary evil. A first class piece.

I used to sport a 3-inch-bladed folding knife in a nylon/cordura(what the heck's the difference?!) sheath for quite some time. I thought it looked rather fashionable!
But then I got my first knife with a clip, the Benchmade AFCKbt, and I loved it!
Finally, no more popping open sound of a button snap, no more ripping velcro sound!
My sheath suddenly started to look shabby to me...
Personally, I definitelly prefer clips over sheaths, first and foremost, due to the ease and speed of deployment, and concealability concerns!
heck, they make some knives look like pagers! Which can in turn, avoid certain disputes.
There, I've said my long winded two cents, it's getting late, and I've still got to tuck in my knives for the night
