Clogged belts..

Yes, I ball them up. I just use those pesky little plastic bags they put your stuff in at the stores. The course belts rip them to shreads but the finer belts don't make such a mess of them.

My hand? They get into machinery too often :( without me doing it intentionally.

Wow...y'all are pretty fancy.

I used to use old socks or shirts.....:o

Right now, it's an old shoe. Works fine for me.

Also, I never grind metal on a belt I use for wood. Had to go back too many times for clean-up later.....

Anybody ever try shrink wrap? If not I brought some home from work (the pallets come wrapped with it) and I'll let you know how it works. You can wind it up real tight. We have alot of it that just gets thrown away. I may be able to put it to good use if it works.

I take my belts off and wash them in an old tub with a washboard and some lye soap. Then I get Granny to run them through the wringer and hang them up to dry on the line. After an hour or two in the breeze, they are ready. Usually, while we are waiting for them to dry, me and Granny sit down by the cement pond and drink some white li... er, take some medicine.

Oh yeah... one time, Granny got her tit caught in the wringer WOOHOO! What a fun time that was! :D

Hey guys the shrink wrap works great. Very little mess, about as much as a cleaning stick. Seems to work best with 100 grit on up. I don't think it's dense enough for the coarser grits. You can wind it real tight and it stays that way. Anybody needs some let me know. It's readily available from work.

I got a best buddy who also makes knives....and is in the textile industry. He has come across the best material I have seen for removing cocobolo, etc, from belts...he has strips of rubber material from a huge sanforizer belt used in textiles (sorry, I just know that was spelled wrong, but have not a clue as to the correct spelling) that really does the trick. It is a little heavier duty than the gum rubber, last longer. I have given him this web address, and he has registered his user name. I believe he will post to this thread soon. He has told me he would be willing to sell some of this stuff if folks are interested...worth taking a look at it, for what its worth. It really works

Godogs,
Sounds interesting. Will watch for him. If he makes knives He should already be registered. :D This is a great place to learn and help others learn.
