clogging files

i'm sure this is a silly question but do any of you guys have any tips on how to keep your files from clogging up when filing steel?

You could try applying chalk to the file, recently there was a post saying that if you put a fan to blow over the work, it helps with it, but I am yet to try that.

getting a good file card with stiff wire bristles goes a long way, unless you already have one and are talking about non clogging moreso on the fly than stopping to clean the file.
