Clones,fakes or whatever

It seems to me that you presume to speak for the majority of forum members, in your statement; all of a sudden you're their spokesperson? All I was trying to say was that we believe that it was an honest error since he is new to the forum; I think that was a fair and generous thing to say.

Get the f--k off my back and find something better to do with your time than start fights with strangers on the Internet.

Perhaps you should word your posts better so that someone else doesn't read them and think you're making claims indicating that the majority of the forum members are forgiving towards sales of clones.

The GM1 and Factor Iconic are debatable and there might be some special cases like this that are but generally copies are out of China. I believe people have decided that the Factor Iconic is in essence a clone. Most reputable dealers have pulled it from their stock at the request of Jesper Voxnaes since he felt it too closely mimicked his design.
Wow. I would have never even noticed, I like both designs but the companies are too unfamiliar to me to pursue buying them. The Iconic looks just like the GM1 down to the screw placement I'm surprised they haven't sued, although that goes into...
Don’t even ask me about the Microtech Matrix. I don’t kniw why that is allowed.
Which apparently was a petty pissing match, supposedly instigated by representatives of KAI but ultimately was acted upon by Marfione/Microtech. Again, I'm surprised that KAI didn't sue over the blatant design theft, but the cease and desist was about the patent on the lock system and not the design.

It is not easy to sue for copying design. Patents are generally awarded for a mechanism.

There are design patents but they are hard to enforce. Usually you will see something like the design of a coke can which is trade marked. This is not the same thing as a patent but I am no patent law expert.

The fact that design theft is hard to enforce legally and that there are few legal protections for original designers is precisely why knife enthusiasts/fans need to take their own steps to discourage it. We know it when we see it. And I for one am glad that the BF community works to provide a forum that is unfriendly to design theft.

It's not much, but it's something we can do to support a craft and hobby we care about. That's how I look at it, anyway.

Agreed 100%.

Very well put.....and most here agree, wholeheartedly.
