Black Palm (Borassus flabellifer) native to Southeast Asia.

This is my first time ever working with Black Palm. At first look it was boring with killer splinters. Another forum member told me it should be cut diagonally, so that is what I did. WOW! What a transformation. These blocks look like some sort of reptile skin. Black Palm is hard wood, but should be stabilized to protect against splinters. I really like this stuff.

If you would like the blocks you get from this thread stabilized, I can send them with my next batch to K&G for an extra $5 each. Turnaround time is about 2 weeks from when they receive them. I will be sending batches to K&G for stabilizing every week or so.

If you would like your blocks cut into scales I can do that at no charge.
US Shipping is $2.50 for 1 block or free if you get 2 or more. Canada Shipping is $10 for up to 3 blocks. The rest of the world is $12 for up to 3 blocks. My address to make payment through paypal is itsaburl@hotmail.com.

When you decide which blocks you want, just post "I'll take #s ......" and I will mark them sold for you. Be sure to note in your post if you want them stabilized or cut into scales.

These blocks come with a No questions asked, Money back guarantee.

Hi Mark,

If I buy five do I get a free one? :D ;)

Please pick me out a $100 worth of nice blocks, include stabilizing please. I can wait for them to get done. You might want to show the adjacent side for some blocks, so folks can see that too.

Mahalo, Phil

Looks good Mark. Amazing what that angle cut does, isn't it!
If you hadn't told me, I wouldn't have known. When I look online everyone else is just cutting along the grain and the wood looks ok, but nothing like this. I guess it is because it is hard to get big pieces. Thank You for the help Stacy.

This shows how the grain looks without cross cutting.

when i buy palm it is always end grain or some sort of angled cut
if i wanted light and dark striped wood there are many that i could pick from

nice blocks (too bad i still have a few sets of scales and blocks here at the house )

I've cut it that way for years... It only takes a 3" wide board to make a 6" long angle cut block. One problem with angle cut is weakness from short grain angle.

There's more than one species of black palm in the market (and not all from Asia) and not all tubes cut alike.

The size problem is thickness. You loose a lot of thickness cleaning edges after acrylic infusing, but that's the best way to go with this stuff.

Mark,

If you'll do another deal like Phil's I'll take 4 stabilized let me know and I'll get you the money.

Thanks Tim

I was going to hold off and send in an order of my own, but you'll probably get to it before I do. :D

Please send mine in with the rest.

Ill take 225 and 231 and 228 BUT I think Adam posted a switch--if that stands then ill take228,210 and 219-stabilized-Mark pp sent for stabilized 210,219,228-mark
