Closed Folder For Self Defense

I was on jury duty for a case where someone used a gun to club someone during a kidnapping. We were told by the prosecutor that whether the defendant used the gun to shoot or to club was irrelevant. The bottom line was that he used a gun in a crime. I don't know if it is the same with knives and self defense but I would think, pulling out a knife and using it as a impact weapon would be treated the same as using it to cut.

I'm not a lawyer so check with the experts before taking action!

In a fight the opponent would very likely feel out your concealed gun, you would not fear them stealing the weapon during the fight and using it against you?

I've been in around 30 fights in my life when I was younger, I know how the psychology works, as soon as the moment both people have thrown punches the fight WILL escalate. Drawing a weapon has nothing to do with that. So they draw a knife, and you draw your gun, so what? They could still stab you multiple times after you shoot them. People are not going to just drop dead instantly after a few bullets. Even a typical bullet to the heart, they'll still have at least 5 seconds to stab you, which is plenty of time to do similar damage back to you. Only way to instantly take them down is a shot to the head, but the bullet often does not penetrate the skull.

I digress, my point is that if you're throwing punches in a fight, and it hasn't escalated to a life/death situation, then why the hell would you be in the fight in the first place? For fun? That first punch you throw back to your attacker WILL escalate the fight, your life will be in jeopardy, that's how fights work. We're not boys anymore when we can just play fight.
You are correct about gun vs. knife at the very close ranges common in chaotic bar and street fights. It happened at Altamont, CA during the Stones concert there in 1970 and was captured on film. It can be seen in the movie "Gimme Shelter", which documented the infamous concert. A black man pulled a gun and managed to get off one shot before being tackled and stabbed to death by an outlaw biker.

I know its an old thread I am replying to but you do realize a head shot stops them DEAD in there tracks....

Head shot WILL stop ANYTHING from moving forward, Unless the moving forward motion is them falling forward from the big hole in the back of there skull

Unless you have achieved the level of pistolcraft competence of a Navy SEAL or a Gunsite Ranch instructor, what you are suggesting is folly. Sure, Israel's Mossad agents are infamous for shooting people in the head, but these people ambush their targets at point-blank range, shooting them multiple times in the back of the head with a suppressed Beretta .22 (Mossad's favorite individual weapon). The poor sap who dies never sees it coming. Sometimes, these killings take place near restaurants, in parks, or other public places. Mossad agents also operate in teams ("Aleph"; their version of "A-team" and "Beth"; their version of "B-team"). They also train constantly. Are you able to legally own a suppressed .22? Do you have the same level of training as Mossad agents? Do you have the same support teams that they have? LEOs are trained to shoot center-of-mass because it offers the highest level of hit probability.

how silly are you gonna look explaining to the jurers that you had a 6" knife which is probably over the blade length restriction, but it really didn't matter because you never opened it. you really think that's gonna fly.

The Ti-Lite is unfortunately not a politically friendly knife..A Ti-Lite is a really great knife but its design, shape, and opening feature make it fit into a wide category of laws in most states. Depending on the circumstance that knife can be considered a dagger or dirk, dangerous knife or a gravity knife. It looks like a classic Italian switchblade and has a look that is not friendly to Law Enforcement no matter what state your in. Depending on the circumstance just the very act of you carrying a knife for "self defense" gives you pre meditated use of a knife as a deadly weapon.. Knives are not really "allowed" to be carried for self defense in most states. You need to carry a knife for a purpose other than self defense..Meaning that if you are walking down the street and someone tries to rob you with a knife, you happen to pick up a pipe that was laying on the ground by the garbage and defended yourself you are 95% in the clear..But if you are carrying a knife for the purpose of self defense and someone robs you its a whole different ballgame..You are both in the wrong in the eyes of Law Enforcement...Be careful what you say if this ever happens to you...A Gerber multi tool could be used as the best yawara or kubotan ever made but in the end it is still just a tool,,,,
