THIS PRE-ORDER IS NOW CLOSED, THANK YOU.
The DEK series of knives are a collaboration of Lorien Arnold and Nathan Carothers to make a small everyday carry knife capable of normal cutting chores but also designed to work as a weapon for self defense. The best knife for self defense is the one you have on you (the inspiration for this series was an EDC1 carried as a tool but used for self defense a few years ago). It makes sense for your EDC to be designed to accommodate this use. This is accomplished with a hand grip made to accommodate a saber and a reverse grip and a blade well shaped for the task. This handle locks in, you know where the edge and point are without looking and your hand is safe from slipping. There is additional jimping around the end and there is a pad sized and shaped for your thumb in a reverse grip. People rave about this handle, hold one and you'll understand.
This is our most complex pre-order to-date. Some knives will start to ship within about 6 months but I'm going to give myself 18 months to ship all of these because there's so many variations. If you're not comfortable possibly waiting almost two years please do not participate in this pre-order. I'm only promising to complete all orders within 18 months. We will be selling some of these patterns on Friday sales at the same time we're shipping pre-orders so you will see knives being sold while you're waiting on yours. If this causes you to feel sad you should save yourself some hurt feelings and pass on this order.
Once you place your order and it is confirmed and finalized, there are no changes or refunds. I'm sorry, but it has to be this way in order for this process to make sense for us here. The only exceptions are if I'm late (you can get a refund) if I'm unable to complete your order (if Magnacut isn't available or if there is a problem with it) or if you move. If you move, you can (and should) update your shipping address. All other requests for changes will only result a big sticky booger being placed in your box when we ship your knife. Our company has been around a while, I'm not going anywhere, you will get your order. That said, pre-orders (in general) are a terrible idea that I don't recommend. I offer them because people request them. I recommend you just wait on a regular sale.
We're offering three patterns in two steels.
The DEK1 is an existing pattern that we're offering here again.
It's beautiful, it's very highly functional and, like the Shiv and the HDFK, it's an iconic CPK knife. Between Lorien and me this is some of the best work to leave our shop. If you've never used one, you're missing out. We're re-releasing this because it really is that good. We are so proud of this knife, it is dripping in excellence. You NEED one.
Here are the specs:
Specs:
Delta 3V, 60.5 HRC, .160" thick at ricasso (a little over 5/32") (Magnacut stainless steel optional)
Total length 9.125
Blade length 4.5
Weight 6.2 oz
Edge angle 20 DPS
Grippy 3D machined scales in micarta or G10
Titanium fasteners
Hidden lanyard
These are all "field grade", machined and tumbled with tool and grind marks. However they're given a light hand ground convexed S grind before tumbling.
Basic vanilla configuration, with sheath, does not include shipping:
$310 in canvas micarta, black or natural
^This is a very good value for this knife and is the configuration that I recommend.
Optional add ons available in addition to plain vanilla:
Penetrator tip (the shoulders are ground back at the point leaving a sharp stabby tip) $25
Swedge (milled) $45
Acid wash (will show wear with use) $50
Satin grind after tumble (super clean 220 grit hand ground finish) $125
Acid wash and satin grind the primary $150
Magnacut stainless steel with optimized heat treat rather than Delta 3V, same price
Make my titanium fasteners pretty and blue $15
Scales, substitute for basic micarta:
Black Linen micarta $10
Double Black canvas micarta $10
OD green micarta $10
Burlap micarta $20
Double red (maroon) canvas micarta $20
OD green or Black G10 $10
Terotuf (grey or bright green or OD green) $20
Edge cut antique Micarta $100
Mystery wood (prolly something really crappy like an old dry rotted Ikea bookshelf) $150
Shipping in the USA is $13. Multiples do not accrue additional shipping.
Price includes an excellent kydex sheath. Your choice of Taco with Ulticlip, pancake with semirigid drop loop, pancake with Teklok. The Teklock can be turned 90 degrees for horizontal carry. The Ulticlip works inside the waistband or in a pocket. The semirigid drop loop is pretty close to an old-school belt sheath.
There is also a DEK2, which is a very heavy-duty variation for those of you who want to try (and fail) to break something.
Here are some computer renderings of what it won't look like:
The DEK2 is only available in Delta 3V. It comes with our rough use warranty. If it ever fails (in any way, for any reason short of intentionally breaking it) I will replace, repair or refund. You cannot break this knife (without big tools). Try to break this knife. I'm taking it down to a somewhat thin edge, so you might pick up some edge damage by cutting though a bolt, car, nail, bridge etc but if you can damage it, I will repair it. If you want a small knife that can handle anything you can possibly dish out, this is it. This knife has a combination of durability, cutting performance and edge retention you cannot find anywhere else.

The DEK3 is for you guys wanting something hard and thin and hollow ground.
1/8" stock, hard as a woodpecker's lips and ground down to an atom. Behold our first non-rough-use knife since the potato knives and our first hollow ground production model since the skinners. Is it a tactical santoku? It's light as a feather and cuts like a laser. 10" hollow ground in either modified Delta 3V at HRC 61.5-62 or Magnacut. The rear swedge is thin and can be sharpened. The swedge does not come all the way to the point to prevent the tip from being overly fragile.
Here are the specs:
