CLOSED PRE-ORDER, K20 Wakizashi (the 20" Notta-Katana)

Nathan and Jo, I'd like to be put on the waitlist for the next round of Katana's. I think this is the place to post this, if not, please let me know where,

Appreciate it,

I'm sorry we're not able to maintain a wait list but the next pre-order, next year, will be open a full week without limitations. That's the best I can do.

Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist will the first batch have something to different itself from on coming runs?

I think that would be pretty cool
One thing will be that we'll have them in hand while the second run is still finishing paying for theirs. And that it's more likely that Nathan will finish ours without killing himself through overcommitment.

I think all this feeding frenzy situation was because of what happened with K18.

Understandably, the people were hesitant paying the asking pre order price with K18 as it was expensive and Nathan did not produce anything similar before. But the K18 turned out to be an amazing knife/sword and now it worths 3-4 times what was asked back then, and the recent sales showed that K18 could sell like hot cake even at 2k price point. The ebay sale also showed that it would be possible to sell it around 4k. So, people have realised that whatever price Nathan is asking in his preorder sale, the product would like to be worthing at least 3 times the asking price when it was delivered. So literally anyone who can put up 50 % deposit together (apart from the poor international customers who has to pay for 100 %) jumped into the NotAKatana order. I would have too if the risk involved with international orders were not that great and would be asked to paid 50 % deposit like the US customers.

After my Behomether, I recently got delivery of UF2 and Kephart and I am more than impressed with the value of these knives are offering even after recent price increase. So, it is no surprise that the demand is higher than supply.

While D3V is great, there are other steels more suited to smaller knives such as 4V, CruWear and MagnaCut. And since Nathan has a reputation of optimising the heat treat for any steel he would be working on, when he starts to deliver products in CruWear and MagnaCut, demand for his work will increase even more. Also very cool patterns such as Kukri and Folder would be coming too, this would expose Nathan's work to a different group of people (especially the folder) which in turn would increase his customer base even further. So, as long as Nathan keeps his business model the same (i.e. best value for the money) and do not expand his production by employing more people, we should expect an increase in imbalance on supply and demand. This would make buying Nathan's knives more and more difficult as the time pass and drive the used knives price even higher. So, it only makes sense to buy whatever he is producing now as in the future it would be even more challenging to buy his knives due to inflation in second hand prices and decrease in availability of the new knives.

I believe the NotAKatana would be a turning point in Nathan business and he will seriously will need to consider his business strategy as I do not think he will be able to keep the the second pre-order open for a week or at least keep it open without capped number of knives.
