i know Maxam today is cheap crap.. not sure when quailty went down, but this one is 15+ years old. not sure what steel. stamped SKMX 97 and MAXAM SEKI-CITY JAPAN
i dont remember where i bought it, i was around 14yrs old and got it from cataloge, back then i thought it was the sweetest knife i ever saw ha.. i dont what its worth, if anything. cant find any good info on it.. so ill try to put something together.

what i can say, in the hand it feels pretty good in normal grip, thumb ramp is smooth but being steep along with the choil its very secure (reminds me a little of the para2 held like this) but little hot spot on the middle finger. roomy handle, xtra butt space for hammering.. choked up also pretty good, the gimping gives great bite but not over aggressive.. choking up ever further up the blade is nice too, thumb/forefinger gripping the blade and middle/ring fits nicely in the finger grooves.. held low in the palm, for a long reach, again feels very good and secure, might be the most comfortble position of them all. reverse grip is okay, with thumb over butt,, but again with the mid finger hotspot.why the hell that hole is there idk, its edge is rounded, and pretty comfortable in side grip, with thumb on hole.

if the steel is workable then maybe a nice project knife, grind down that hotspot on the middle finger, swap the handle (very cold to the touch, on cold days) or re-profile it. mess with the grind maybe get rid of the serrations. fit and finish is "alright".. if u wanna keep the handle, it could use some smoothing out where the handle meets the tang in a couple places. hasnt seen much sharpening, exept a poor attempt or 2 with a kitchen sharp rod when i was kid, not knowing what i was doing, got it sharp enough (some scratches remain from that, and light/moderate use) haven't used the knife in ages. screws/nuts are still tight like new. fairly slick handle, but with the finger groves, choil, gimping its very secure. dont remember any rust ever on the blade, except a smidge in the gimping, photo can show light discoloration in the above view if u follow my photobucket link. balance is very good, at the middle finger groove. blade thickness is adequate, photo is a little deceptive because of the grind. feels like a good hard user.

the sheath is leather.. beat up, worn, and some water damage on the back. but still pretty good considering. button has nice snap/firm.. strap is pretty loose, lots of play, u can almost pull the knife out while snapped shut, if that middle finger groove wasnt protruding so much (strap easily replaced). i put my mark/tag on the front when i was a kid hehe. id junk it just based on cosmetics, still very functional tho.. but if u want it, its yours. stitching is still great. stamped on the back MADE IN USA. its a medium softness. easily fits 2" belt (approx 3 1/2" belt loop).

i know it could be worthless, and all this info/pics could be a waste of time, but id rather give all the info i got, as theres not much on it. i remember about what i paid for it, but not sure if its appropriate to list.
i said maybe project knife, but do i think it needs works (other than a sharpening, maybe polishing) no.

>>>not sure what a fair trade would be (used is fine). Id like any of the following..
Mora Companion MG
Mora Clipper
other similar Mora
fire steel
fiskars x7 sheath
paracord
zippo
field friendly sharpening device

USPS to CONUS
will ship elsewhere if u pay the xtra charge. I'll ship first.
