If you mean compact flash memory card? No it does not use that kind. It uses the same kind that you slide into your cell phone.
Micro SD card
About your question on the counter? Not sure what you mean. Do you mean how much space is left on this memory card? Or how many more pictures Can I take?
That depends on how much space is on the memory card. Currently there is a 4GB card in it, which I will keep.
You will need your own SD card for this camera. I hope that answers your question if not rephrase please.

He means shutter counter.
Each camera has a limited number. Usually in the 6 digits.
I'll look in the owner's manual and figure out how to find that number. I've had this camera like 2 weeks. Personally I've taken like 30 photos just to play with it. I'll get back to you with the counter number for shutter count.

Thank you gentlemen. I am now much more educated on shutter actuations and the average numbers for Canon or Nikon cameras from a mathematical standpoint compared to an actual standpoint.
This particular Rebel XSI camera has software limitations, one of which is it does not include shutter count within the menu available to me. There is free shutter count software available to download which I would gladly do if my computer was up and running but in fact it has turned into a brick on me. So I don't have an answer for you until I can get this camera to somebody else's house to a different computer to use the appropriate software to get an accurate count for you. You can count many cameras from this site

In the meantime something else I read about simply States look at the age of the camera in regard to it's physical condition in order to get at least somewhat of an idea as to whether or not the camera has been used alot ,or maybe not at all or very little. That's the best answer I Can give at time.
If you were holding this camera in your hand and examining it.....it's in mint condition. I would say it basically looks unused I had to cut open the menu packages just to get the unused menus out of their packaging. The cables and the AC adapter are still in their original packaging from the factory the disk is never been used. This camera was previously owned by an electronics company quite honestly I don't know if this cameras ever been used. I do know they upgraded to newer cameras....
Closer examination tells me it may have been on a tripod there is a mark near the quarter 20 tripod mount threading.
...serial #'s....

I did my best with some websites that claim they could retrieve the shutter count from this model camera, but it didn't work. The only count that came up where there should have been digits were three capital letters XXX
Withdrawing post.
