hmm i would rather grab w.e gun i have on me at the moment but if i had to choose it would be the bk17 very stabby stabby. .as for the blood groove idk the diffrence it would make

I was in a knife fight at inside of a Fred Meyers a long time ago, I had a USMC kabar fighting knife on my belt the other guy had a folder.

If I had to pick one of the Becker line for that situation I would like a patrol machete, taped to a 12G shotgun! Nah but really I would go for a BK5 since its so fast in the hand and has some reach.

BK-5 for sure. It has plenty of reach and very well balanced. The only other that I might consider as a top contender would be the 7.

I think that the bk7 would be my choice over the bk5 because I can't imagine stabbing straight forward with an up swept blade would be easier than doing the same with a clip-point blade. As far as the blood groove goes, it would only reduce weight. Blood grooves don't usually do what the name suggests which is help blood flow out of the wound. The fastest way to do that would be to pull the knife out :P

Well after playing with my bk15 and acting like a pirate (its 330am, im bored, my dog and I are up..beer, dont judge us :D)..that knife would be my choice. Its very agile and it flows nicely with hand movement.

both BK5 and BK15 at same time :)

the BK15 was used in Dune, nuff said :)

BK9- the longer blade gives more reach, and uses a different stance than shorter blades. Having a sharpened false edge would be a nice addition to the blade, and I have actually been thinking about getting this mod done to mine. That being said, a knife fight is a lose-lose situation. As someone said, " In a knife fight, one goes to Intensive Care and the other goes to the morgue".

the BK5 and BK15 potentially have MUCH long false edge capability.

it's VERY VERY VERY fast. which would be important in my modest understanding of knife fighting.

it's very nearly 14 inches long, should easily penetrate armor, and one can do all those cool slicing cuts, stab, flip, and guard. fast.

though i suspect your Gurkas would like the Machax a lot more. also can be made a decent pointy with a false edge

imho the BK9 is too chubby for property fighting techniques

course, Steven Johnson's "bacon maker" is a nasty piece of work too :>

Having been in one or two I would take the Reinhardt. One swipe, arm falls off, party is over. Upward swings are the hardest to defend against.

I would go for one of my 5's for sure!!! It's not like I carry one EVERYWHERE I go ;)

I find the topic fascinating, but entirely academic to my life.
Which makes it equally fascinating to wonder who you people are that you've been in knife fights!

I think I would have to go with the BK5 or BK15, it seems much more "sword" shaped, and people fight with swords right?
Also, I think it has the best stabbing ability. Maybe somebody has a huge side of beef that they could video some tests on and post them like they do in the Cold Steel promo videos? :)
The only knife fight I have ever been in was WITH a knife, and it won.

And twist on the way out. As any bowhunter knows, dying from hemorrhagic shock takes quite a while. I would not want my opponent around for that long. A coup-d-gras to the neck or head would be a much better option than waiting for my opponent to bleed out.

Lot to be said for that. Pulling out a polished 5 would certainly make your opponent reconsider his actions.

"Now THAT's a knoif..."

You never know. The only knife fight I was ever in I won holding a plastic picnic knife (to my opponent's carotid artery)! :D It's all in the techique, Baby!

BK9? No way. As been said here, way too clumsy and too much effort to stab with it. Full-sized axes make good choppers, too, but I wouldn't bring one to a knife fight! :D
