Staying in the busse family of knives, what is the closest blade specs to a basic 7? with a full tang slab handle that is

I think it might be the team Gemini or the boss jack.

yea, I have the basic 7 but trying to find something like it with slab handles instead of reserpene.

Since you're looking for full tang/micarta slabs....I'm thinking the Boss Jack would be close to what your after. The experts here may have a better idea though.

PS- Will....stop tempting me!!!!:D

From another thread:

Yep. I let that B7 go after I got my Boss Jack. But that B7 was nice. The edge was near-dead when I found it. A bit of work on both sides and it came back to life. It was the first knife I made shaving sharp on my own.

It's ugly in person. Poorly stripped and beat on. But a great user.

I'd assume the stardard mid range set is all within the size realm of the basic 7, but if your looking for a similar balance you may have a hard time getting it in an exposed tang model. The basic 7 is pretty light and it' keeps it's balance forward with the hidden tang.

-boss jack
-sfno
-sarsquatch
-sar8 (WAY heavier with that giant massive boat of a pommel (:p) but it's the most similar in blade shape
-hell razor

Those (save for the sar8) are all significantly different approaches to the midsized knife though. Most of them go for the large blade format where the basic 7 is like a smaller knife extended to be longer.

actually the sar8 is probably much larger than the basic7. If your willing to bridge the gap between basic 7 and 9 you'll find the sar8 and nmsfno.

ratweiler/ ratweiler chopper (7.5" blade) They're both very pretty but I personally prefer the aesthetics of the normal ratweiler handle more so than the chopper version handle(prefer the chopper blade though!). I hear the ergonomics of the chopweiler handle are much better. I'm picking one up off a member here in a couple of days. I'd say The closest possible match is an SR camp tramp but that's not a full tang handle, it's res-c.

Apologies:o, just saw your request to keep it in the busse family.

EDIT: Just realised that SR is in the busse family xD!!! I'm so retarded sometimes.

st/ripper
mini-eu17 and eu17
noe (way bigger handle)
persian fighter
sjtac

are also kinda in the basic 7 size range. they will all feel much heavier in the hand than the b7 though.

Weird SHBM looks like a good match. Is it hard to find?

that is a deceiving image, it looks smaller because it's at a high angle. I marked as "weird" because it has the pommel ground down and it has a bottle opener cutout on the talon hole. I don't know if it was a variant or a home-done modification. The shbm (Straight Handled Battle Mistress, part of the old straight handled line from the early 2000's) is actually very large compared to the b7, it's bigger than the b9.

They are among the rarer ones to come up, not as rare as something like the force one, and no where near as rare as the older field grades. you could probably post a WTB thread and get one within 2 weeks. However, it'll cost you between 800-1,600$.

In this image from top to bottom:
fbm (fusion battle mistress) w/home done scales
bwm (Bushwacker mistress) currently available at bussecombat.com
shbm (straight handled battle mistress) A really early slotted bolt version.
shbm - "later" version with the more rounded belly. It's still an early version because of the slotted bolts though. There are 3 types, smooth bolt, slotted bolt and tube fastener with tube fastener being the most recent version.

This is all in russian, but it's a fun thread to scan through:
http://talks.guns.ru/forum_light_message/5/201919.html

almost every busse thats been publicly photographed and posted on bladeforums is somewhere in that thread.

The santa's outlaw variant is another close one to the b7. (center of the bottom image (unless it 404's for hyperlinking))

Looking at this photo more closely, I think this is the closest thing you will be able to find to the basic 7 out of the entire busse family of knives without going custom or heavy customization. Though the blade isn't quite as long, the edge itself is identical - the boss jack just brings it back reducing the length of the ricasso and choil space. The basic 7 is taller, but the boss jack is saber ground at the same thickness, so it would help to make up some of the weight difference caused by the size difference. The handle of the boss jack is technically smaller, but if you look at the size of the tang underneath the resiprene-c they are actually pretty darn close.

If you want the same handle shape, your almost exclusively limited to the ash1 and to the older straight handle series. While the straight handle series (the steal heart is closest to the basic 7) is awesome, they are very expensive. You can get an ash1 in multiple different thickness for as much as half the price of a comparable straight handle.

This is one next to one a swamp rat (no idea of the name, that handle just screams uncomfortable to me so i never learned the nomenclature for them)

heres a variety of different models in the ash1 line (liu kangs image)

LVC, this is extremely helpful and much appreciated. Is the Boss jack available in thinner than a Satin Jack(the 1/4 inch one)thickness? very much enjoying the education, thanks

Not at the moment. Everything that's been made available to the public so far has been at shows, much of which is "prototype" models. It will likely become a regular production model on the busse website, but it may be the same as it is now (1/4" thick). It would be awesome if they offered it in 3/16" with 1/4" being the le version.

of the prototype versions there are 2, the coated fullered and the satin flat. They are both the same spine thickness, but the satin version has the corners of the main grind rounded more and blended making it a bit less robust at the edge. The satin version will be a bit better than the coated, but still pretty thick for slicing tasks.
