Well, the thread I started got locked so I'll post my post here and just leave:

Thanks for the replies. I'm still excited about it. I still think that the design is great. And I'm sure that ZT would do whatever it takes to make the best blade, so if it doesn't look as good but performs better, I'm more than willing to give it a shot!

I think that both sides of the coin should not be tolerated. I find the piling on by "Fan Boy's" to be equally as offensive, as a "Troll's" pot stiring.
Thank you Mod's, for your hard work, and taking the time to keep BOTH sides in check.
Keep up the good work !
Dan.

I'm good with monitoring bad behavior, but I do have to wonder why Kai feels the need to shut down threads inquiring about the replacement 777. Some of us have even been contacted by vendors stating that our orders were being converted to the new metal. Stating somewhat heavy-handed that "no official announcement by us, so nothing to talk about" smacks of censorship. While you're a private corporation on a private forum and therefore 1st Amendment laws dont apply, there are still some heavily ingrained American principles we all expect. Don't ban me! I love the knives and own many, including the Shun line in my kitchen. I just want whoever the moderator is for Kai to keep in mind that free discussion and debate isn't something that can be squashed on a single forum. Having the authority and power to shut down discussion whenever you see fit is actually quite an extraordinary power when you really reflect on it. If it were the government, we'd be living in Iran or China. So, whoever you are Mr. (or Ms.) Kai Moderator, do try to balance the purpose of the forum (discussion) with the needs of your company (profit). If word is out from dealers, what's your point and what are you really trying to achieve by shutting down a few threads. As you know, it's the Internet. You can't control all the information, try as you might.

I'd also like to edit to add the thought that I'm hoping the social media department is talking with the marketing department. For example, the actions of you, the social media department, has a very strong potential of potentially turning off customers to the brand based on your "control" of your house. Yes yes I know, it's "your house", but you're also affecting customers, not just people chatting on a forum. So I'm curious, is marketing fully aware of the actions being taken by the social media department? Has there been a discussion of how the brand's image can be affected by the actions of the moderators on the forum? Does the moderator report monthly to the corporate board on its actions? Is the Board fully supportive of all actions taken by you the moderator? Is each decision made asking "Is this good for the brand and sales?" I just have to wonder as sometimes these types of things (moderating) can have unintended consequences, such as being seen as less-than-transparent and overly-controlling of people simply discussing your product. Does Kai want to be viewed as a corporation that stifles inquiries and discussion about its product? Does it want to do so even if it means that people may get turned off to the brand? I simply think these are questions and points that should be considered by an experienced social media department, whether it's one person or many. I honestly have no idea if the Kai moderator is one person or many. For all I know, it is the CEO!

Excellent, well thought out post. Said way better than I could have. I love ZT's but seemingly (at least to me) not being able to voice concern on QC without being berated by "regulars" is disturbing.
As I sit reading what I've written so far, I find myself questioning whether this simple, but I hope "adult" response will receive "hate" also and if so I may have made my last appearance in this forum. I sure hope not.
Thank you.

I'll have to agree with the spirit of CRYA's post. With all of the freedoms we are loosing daily from our own country, it seems sad that on a forum designed to exchange ideas and converse about our knives has to resort to shutting down threads that they, KAI, deem detrimental to their ideas. I used to frequent this sub-forum quite a bit, and own some Kershaw knives, and think they are great knives for what I have invested in them. But since KAI has started moderating this sub-forum instead of the regular Blade Forum moderators, it has lost all interest to me as I enjoy the exchange of ideas presented. If I do not agree with someone or their ideas, then I might submit my own side of the discussion and move on. If it gets out of hand, then I just don't read or follow that thread any longer. If the thread evolved into a personal name attack, then the moderators would step in and handle the problem as needed. I don't enjoy a one sided discussion. If I did, I would just talk to myself. No enjoyment to that.

Blessings,

Omar

Doesn't that happen with most products, with a following on Earth? If you talk down on a product (in a positive way or not) people who love that product are probably going to be a little agitated at you. If someone reports their Chevy had major problems on a Chevy forum, they're probably going to get some flak from the people who love Chevy.

To your point, you are ABSOLUTELY correct. I guess I'd just like to think we're more adult than that and could handle criticism here. Alas, it seems the lowest common denominator is always the quickest response. Human nature.

Thanks to you for simply having a conversation/discussion without getting all defensive against my post.

Freedom? Government? Censorship and the First Amendment?

Hmmm...I would've sworn I didn't click "Political Arena"... I try to stay out of that crazy house.

The lack of tone that is present in text, also makes it somewhat hard to differentiate constructive criticism, and bad mouthing a product. I think most here ARE adult enough to handle constructive criticism, the problem is not being able to tell the difference in the posters tone/purpose.

I don't think that freedoms are being taken away here. Topics that may bring forth criticism isn't even their main concern. It's the grown adults acting worse than children with the bickering and drama that they wish to avoid. I suppose it should go both ways, some of the regulars maybe overly aggressive at times when someone may appear but not necessarily bashing the company and they should be held accountable also as much as anyone else. In general though. it has been working nicely so far. A thread gets snarky, it gets shut down quick. This didn't happen overnight people. Eventually most should catch on that the BS needs to stay out.

Play nice and I bet we can discuss plenty more touchy subjects than some of you think.

This is a good way to end this, and get back to regular scheduled threads.
