I just returned from the flea market and an old timer mentioned using clove oil to protect knife blades he said it's also so called japanese sword oil. Anybody ever try this or here of using clove oil. mike

Isn't that meant for toothaches?

Go down page to "Vegetable Oil- its not just for salads anymore." There is a post by Crayola you might find helpfull.

Most Japanese sword oils are just scented mineral oil.

Mineral oil has a lot of different knife uses: you can use it to protect against rust or to clean the blade, plus you can use it as a honing oil. In fact, Norton's honing oil is actually just mineral oil.
