Title pretty much says it all.

I've shown my Microtech, ZT, Spydercos, Benchmade, etc to this guy and he refuses to believe that my $300+ knives are really any better than his dragon knife, ninja star, and sword that all together he paid $100 for. What am I even supposed to say to this guy. I've let him handle my knives and he just doesn't seem to get it.

Should I just give up?

yes you should give up. If he wants his crappy knives and thinks they are amazing, let him. More good knives for the rest of us.

Does he have any other hobbies in which he may use some high dollar instrument instead of cheap stuff, i.e. photography, FF DLSR vs P&S, surf fishing with a Van Stahl/Zeebaas instead of whilte wally world rod/reel?

yes,

though there are 1 or 2 at best decent Bud k knives they dont match any high quality knives. It sounds like he is a fantasy collector. So to him they may be better than a ZT or Benchmade........

cant fix stupidity

If he's content, let it go. Once your eyes are opened to the wide world of quality knives, you can never be content with your knives again :p Ignorance is bliss.

Why do you care if he does not agree with you? Just forget it! If he want to stay uneducated in this area: it is his choice! If he just teases you: the more reason not to go down that road!

Who cares if he doesn't like the same kind of knives you do? :confused:

Yes, give up.

If he is a good friend, gift him a decent knife. That aughta teach him. ;)

It's amazing how much knives are relied on in our society and yet most people don't know a thing about them. I've even talked to collectors who know nothing about what they're buying other then "That looks cool." :rolleyes: Give up. Let him enjoy them and chuckle to yourself silently. Just think of it as your own personal comedy show. :D

You can lead a horse to water,

...but you can't make it drink.

Of course your co-worker probably thinks:

A fool and his money are easily parted.

To each his own.

have a box cutting competition with him and show him how much faster his dulls. Then give him a china spyderco (persistence) or one of the many awesome cheaper kershaws

Hey, at least he is into knives, which is saying a lot these days. As said, when his break, be ready with a good low-cost Kershaw, Spyderco or Buck knife recommendation.

I'm using a cheap Trac Phone that cost me $11 at Dollar General. When my friends show me their $?00 I-phones, I could really care less. Mine does what I need it to.

Don't be a hater.:D

Snatch a jewel, if it please you, from a tiger's ravening throat;
Cross the ocean, though it's billows toss in foam wreaths round your boat;
Fearless twine an angry cobra like a garland round your head;
But with fools Forbear to argue, better strive to wake the dead!

You got to learn with this hobby that if you are going to understand expensive nice high end knives, as soon as you get your first knife your going to start researching learning and looking until you realize what you have now is no good. If that doesnt happen it isnt ment to be. Some people arent ment nor want to be into knives seriously.

Well, since most knives are only used to open cartons, cut string and slice-up the occasional Summer Sausage, I doubt that his BudK knives will ever fail on him. For him his line of thinking is probably correct.

Holy wow. That's a lot more responses than I expected. Bladeforums is so great.

Anyway, I think hearing him say that his BudKs are just as sharp and durable as my high end knives is what really infuriated me. Pretty sure his little demonic dragon knife is completely dull and I highly doubt he knows anything about sharpening either.

I think letting him enjoy his fantasy knives is probably the best way to go even though his ignorant comments are difficult to ignore.

Those dragon knives don't look all bad...

You should challenge him to a cut test or something...
