Does anyone know where I can buy coal in southern Ontario (between Windsor and GTA). What kind of coal is best for forging/ forge welding? Google and Kijiji both totally failed to find me anything!

I second that, if you know someone or have a friend working in a coal plant, they may let you take a load home.

I have a friend that has a coal furnace at his home that he uses as his main source of heat. Its a new state of the art giant boiler that heats the liquid for his infloor heat in his house ,shop and barn . He burns about 1 ton a week and told me that if forgeing only use the best coal.

Hey Wnease, there is a guy somewhere in the T.O. area that sells proper blacksmithing coal. His website is www.thak.ca. He says you can also get the same coal from your local Home Hardware store.

Hope this helps.

If you are just starting out on the forging, I've been told it's not the way to go. Everyone I've talked to have told me that propane for many reasons is the way to go. Frank

thanks all, I've forged with coal in Arkansas and propane... I don't have electricity so a blower for propane burner is problematic...

The last time i was in Port Stanley there was huge piles of coal on the docks by the river. I am not sure what it was for but it might be worth checking out.
