I m new to knife , recently i plan to get a Spyderco Para-Military 2 Or ZT0350 .
I cant decide which one to buy . I like the ZT0350 but i afraid the coating will be easily scratch off or colour came off when use it to cut some branches . I never had a coating knife before & i dun know how tough the DLC coating can last .
I hope someone here can help . Any advice will be appreciate
Thank you very much .

Depends on how hard you plan on using the knife. Personally for me if I plan on using the knife, I buy non-coated. If the knife is just to put on display or carried but not cut anything, I buy a coated blade. Coated blades are like black cars, they only look nice when they're perfectly clean.

DLC coatings will take a lot of abuse i havent seen one taken off unless it was intentional, i mean come its called "diamond like coating" for a reason

i like to get a coating if im am gonna use it... IMHO i think it helps a lot with weather resistance and gives the knife character when it starts to wear off :).. i like the clean look of a plain blade though.. personal preference.. by the way the dlc coating on my paramilitary 2 holds up really well i cut plants and branches all the time with it and there is no sign of it wearing off.. the dlc looks real nice but some times other coatings look cheesy

I only choose coated blades if the steel isn't a stainless, though I don't mind non-coated high carbon blades. I find uncoated blades look better longer and the coating causes extra friction when cutting through things. Also I'd go for the Para 2, its one of if not my favorite folder model from any maker.

The coating on the ZT is DLC, which is hardened to something like 80 RC. It is very tough and will serve you well. however, there is another option if you shoot me an e-mail. onlyforbuisness @ gmail (dot) com

I have two 0350's and one satin Para 2 with acu g10. The DLC coating on the ZT's is really tough and holds up very well. I did scratch up one of them doing a task that I have really should not have been doing so I don't think you'd ever have a problem, but the Para 2 is a much better knife IMO. I think the blade shape on the ZT 0350's is pretty good on slicing tasks but when it comes to piercing tasks, it falls short. The build quality overall is very good and overall they are worth the money, but so are all Para 2's. I really just wasn't that impressed with the ZT's... I would take a Para 2 over a 0350 all day long.

The DLC coating on my para 2 held up great to cutting a bunch of carpet and wood and filleting fish too :)

The only reason to get a coated blade is because you like the look.

Other then that stay with un-coated blades,

...IMHO, coatings on blades do not add to cutting performance.
