Both the black oxide and DLC coating were not done in house and one of the reasons we got away from those offerings. We continued to have quality issue and at that stage of the manufacturing of a blade it was difficult and expensive to salvage. Depending on the model it could be very difficult to remove all of the coating. Then the cost to send 1 or a handful of blades to the vendor to have them re-coat blade and hopefully without an flaws that would start the process all over again could take several weeks or months.
There were many factors that contributed to Buck Knives not offering the service. It is something we are capable of doing but are not set up to process, organize and track this type of work.
