Coating in your food...

I don't worry about it. The chances of it flaking off or rubbing off on a sandwich is near 0. If you are talking about coating (like a liquid) use mineral oil, linseed oil, or KPL's Knife shield. They are all food safe.

if you want to go down this rabbit hole - you'll find a lot worse is happening at the food packaging material stage... start there and you'll skip worrying about cerakote & TiN completely ;)

you know they did a long term health analysis and showed that all sorts of ailments are directly co-related to how far away from major hwys you live? - ie - closer to them = higher %'s of health problems, clearly documented with millions of people in the study/area

pretty logical if you think of it, brake dust, steering wheel & huge amounts of rubber off tires and of course the combustion gases....

anyway ;) cheers

Froglube is another food safe one.

DLC is better for pizza. Diamond Like Crust.

I came here knowing what I would find, and I was not disappointed. Great job, everyone; we did it. 19-3ben 19-3ben

I like what ESEE has to say about the topic- basically they can’t certify that their coatings are food safe, because that would require testing they won’t pay for (no one does), but they use their product in full confidence.

I stay away from it personally, but that’s only because I’d rather have metal touching my food and not the coating. In general, I prefer bare metal. I don’t think I’d have a problem if I had to use a coated knife.

I’m not calling knarfeng knarfeng a liar, but it’s hard to believe he never used a pocket knife to cut an apple!

One more vote for BBQ sauce, otherwise the only food safe coating on knife blade for me would be DLC,
everything else will produce micro particles that I don’t want to eat.

In that I ate paint chips as a teen and sniffed glue, and turned out fine, I think you should be ok cutting your steak with a coated blade. Hell, I remember freshman year of high school I had to take a class in summer school and while we were in class they were stripping the lead based paint from the classroom walls as well as removing asbestos. I breathed that in and am perfectly normal.

Normals subjective. Sorry had to.
Umm I've coated a blade in mustard. That gave it a nice patina.
Besides for that my gaurdian has become a dedicated food knife. It gets like a coco oil or something out of the kitchen after I'm done sharpening it and wiped on dirty pants to clean it after use.

What's your thoughts?
"What , me worry ? " AEN 🤪

Seriously , unless you see loose coating flaking off onto a napkin or paper towel when you wipe the blade .

Even the worst old junky coatings didn't just fall off . Had to be scratched or scraped somehow .

Good quality modern coating like DLC should never be a problem in any case . :)
