BC stands for Boron Carbide, a ceramic based coating. DLC stands for Tungsten Diamond Like Carbon. Both are thin film PVD coatings that are very thin, (80 millionths of an inch thick) and go on at low temp. Both are great coatings and cover nothing up. The BC coating is more gray than the DLC. I liken the DLC color on a satin finished blade to an obsidian color. They offer scratch resistance sepecially to knives that are sheathed with Kydex or Concelaex, they increase corrosion resistance, and they look good for those that want a dark color but dont like the easily worn epoxy/teflon/etc based coatings.
