Coating questions

I used to hate the coatings but I now have come to appreciate their place. The name should say it all.... 'Combat Grade'. The coating actually does lend itself to a good bit of protection of the steel both from scratches (mostly, depending on what it rubs or hits) and oxidation. That said, in general I see little reason to use them in all but the harshest use applications and environments... ie. ACTUAL COMBAT.

What

What is this blade?

HG55 with "bombproof tip"

you can sample all the different flavors of HG55 here:

that happened to my tgulb, the coating on the back of the tip chipped off stabbing it into cardboard 🙄 lol its been stripped since then
This is where you missed out on some fun. 😉
Same thing happened to my BATAC, probably from cardboard too. (I think this happens occasionally when while having an edge applied, the coating @ the tip gets a little vibrated in the process, & loosens from the steel just enough to snap off in use.) This is where ya throw it at a wood plank for awhile lol 😉😁🤙

I find those coatings pretty hardy. Father and son nailed my thoughts, either harsh conditions or when you want or need to have less glare for whatever reason but I have owned many coated ones over the years. I used a Game Warden a lot for many years and sold it with a scuffed but largely intact coating. The blade pictured here has been used quite a bit to baton my piñon wood pieces for a chiminea and held up nicely. Anyone identify the version of TG this is?

Big fuller, probably a TGLB or TG.

I thought the coating was just to protect the raw finish until I had the nerve to strip it myself.
