I'm a little curious what the census is of the coating on the medium to larger knives. I would imagine it would not be preferable for the smaller knives since it would impede the slicing capabilities.
Say for the example the Skinny Ash. Would you prefer to have the coating or not? I have done some research on tis but don't have a clear answer.
Thanks

I myself prefer satin or getto satin on my Busse's. But if you have some coated blades you don't like you can send them to me for proper disposal at no charge. :thumbup::D

Coated = greater corrosion resistance.
Coated = cool, colorful knives.
Coated = less sanitary for food use in the field.

Two out of three ain't bad.... ;)

I have coated a bunch of Busse Sarsquatch's, mostly because they rust when you just look at them. One hell of a blade though.

Don't forget this one;

Coated = added friction which makes the knife less effective.

That is true.

I like coatings they're kind of cool looking.

But I really like satin or stripped blades too, they cut a lot better, bite deeper, and all the gunk that embeds in coatings usually just wipe off with satin or stripped blades.

It's really personal preference. Like that skinny Ash you're looking at, the LEs are .25 inches thick while the CG skinny Ashes are thinner (if I recall right).

It also epends on what type of blade you want, either a saber grind or a straight convex (even though the skinny as is convex), sometimes one of those styles are only offered on a satin finish or a CG finish. In that case you might need to strip a CG.

Like I said, it's personal preference.

Of course the added friction can be minimal in some cases, especially once the crinkle coat gets worn smooth.

I strip 'em, because I use my Busse to open cans a lot, and I noticed that the coating just chips off and so then you are left with bits of coating in your food.

Nay they seem unfinished compared to dc or satin but I like the price of coated blades I can strip it just fine I love my comp finish I wish they would let me by a knife strait out of heat treat just slap on some slabs I can even sharpen it savin the cash and yes I am white trash so what lol

I prefer nekkid INFI, but don't really like paying the big upcharge for satin LE versions. So stripping and ghetto satin on the HF 1x30 is the way to go.

I like the coating because they earn their badge of courage as they age - the coating shows it!

And I like the double cut as it does not show every little infraction

I am not really a fan of the satin as it does show every little infraction and they look a little prissy :)
