Coats of a Different Color!

That is very nice. I really enjoy those knives when the maker (and owner) take off a little. Shows a lot of creativity.

Congrats to you both.

Kudos to both owner & maker!
I really like the obvious collaboration.
It helps makes the knife more personal & unique.

Keep up the good work, men. :D

That's a very unusual beauty, and a truly innovative collaboration. Enjoy it, Charlie!

From the Scratted Scanner comes another view of this big, gorgeous Scratted Rope knife by Ken Coats. To really get a sense of its size I have paired it up with a standard Barlow, which happened to be sitting in the P.O.box today, along with Ken's creation.

When I opened the package I was quite surprised by its presence. I am sure you can see why. It says;
"HERE I AM!!"
And Ken knows how to sharpen a blade!!
I always give a knife a paper test when I get it, just to see if it needs any honing, and this guy proceeded to cut neat 1/4" strips off of standard copy paper with no trouble at all!
It's got a "plucker" blade, with plenty of grab area; about a 5 on opening, and 7 on closing to half stop and off half stop, making it nice and secure, but easy to use.
You might say, I like this knife!! And I admire Ken for bravely going off where few have gone before!!

Good looking knife! Charlie - You will have to bring that to the next meeting ! I hope I can make it

Charlie that is very special !
what kind of sheath are you thinking of to compliment this knife ?
as you call it a "work knife", i'm assuming you plan to use it and it's a bit big to really be a "pocket knife".

I agree, it's big for a pocket knife, Roland. I am pondering it.
Any suggestions, anyone? I have lost a folder in the past, to an insecure pouch, and have relied on pockets ever since. No provision for a lanyard on this one, so the sheath must do the security work.

This is my suggestion Charlie, I have several and they work great...

and here is my suggestion, the 6" one:http://www.agrussell.com/handmade-leather-belt-pouch/p/POUhhh5SL/
i have both this sheath and the one suggested by d.parker and use them both (stud flap pouch for a 2 blade Rusty Preston Trapper and the one linked to here for my Eye Brand stag 'Sodbuster' with saw 2ndary). both are secure, it comes down to which is the better fit.
better send the knife on to me and i'll send it back with whichever sheath is the better. (course i'll have to give it a 'trial run' just to be sure)
oh, and that old Cut. Co. Barlow looks kinda lost next to Mr. Bigz, better send it along too !

Hey Charlie, congrats to you and Ken on a FINE looking knife! For such a large blade, my 'ol carpenter's eye tells me that the grind on the edge is straight as a ruler! That's quite an accomplishment in itself:thumbup::thumbup:

Hmm, ya know, I've already got a nice pouch built into my leather toolbelt, I'll bet that knife is custom made for it! I think it just wound up getting sent to the wrong addy!:D:D
