I was completely content with my Mili MS for an EDC, BATAC for a Mid-Sized knife, and an AK for my XXL. But then I keep reading COBALTS "Bigger is Better" and "A big knife can do anything a mid-sized knife can do and more" mantras, as I have for a long time, and now I am no longer content. Now I just don't want a Big A$$ chopper but I NEED one! Thanks COBALT. You HOG! ;)

So now it's time to decide. FFBM, FBM, Dog Father, RD-9, Battle Rat, Basic 9, FSH, FSHH, etc...

And since it will be a user I'm not looking for special handle material or coatings or anything else that would be deemed as a "coloctor's bonus".

I want a beast of a chopper but I also want it to be "knifey" enough to do other tasks aside from just chopping and prying. I have a good EDC to go with it to do the smaller tasks. So, what do you just prefer and why?

I'd vote against the FFBM and the RD-9.......

Of the remainder, the FBM would be the easiest and cheapest (compared to actual list price) to buy.

Past that, any Steel Heart.

.

Every once in a LONG while, someone lets go of a user FSH at a terrific price. Not often, but if you are in the right place at the right time, you are in like Flynn.

I scored one. Gravelface another. Hank beat me out on a 3rd. That's all within the last 45 days or so.

As stated, FBM's are plentiful and relatively-cheap right now. Best to get that while the gettin's good.

I am split between getting something GIMUNGUS like the FFBM or something like the FSH or FSHH which are still big but not as huge.

Oh and something I have been wondering... especially since I have not held either...

I am also stuck between the FBM and FFBM. The corragated bevels on the FBM are supposed to add prying strength and help it be a better slicer, right? But it is still a beast I assume. So why would the FFBM be more desirable to some? Just heavier?

I found the FFBM to be too heavy and fat. Not too heavy to carry, but too heavy to swing for very long.

the FBM, on the other hand, is perfect in that regard.

FAT FAT FAT....some guys just are into FAT bro!

Heft can make a better chopper...not an absolute but sometimes it does help! I'd go for the FFBM myself...but than I'm one of those guys! ;)

Oh and BTW TL...IMHO, when you get into a knife the size of a FBM...1/4" starts to look mighty skinny!

Tyrkon, you'll get to use some big blades next week to see what you like :D. Mark will have my Eu and his CGFBM, I'll have a SHBM and most likely my FFFBM. I don't think Mark has a steel heart, and I KNOW I don't. Wait....no :p.

Just last night I was thinking about thinning the FBM herd and the first one I'd keep -for a good user- after the SE is a CGFBM

I had some SHs (SHe & MOASH) and they were nice; but if you are going to pack around that much knife why not just go "Full Brazilian"? :D

Since you already have a BATAC you may as well skip the SH and step up to a BM. The SH is probably a better all around knife if you can only carry one. Jack of all trades but master at none. But since you have a smaller knife like the MS the BM will complement it very well and cover all of your bases.

I prefer the FBM over the FFBM because the latter is just too heavy for me to even consider lugging around. For very very short hikes maybe????? It is a montrous destroy anything in sight type knife for sure. Heavy weight is good for chopping up a a certain point and I think the FFBM has hit that mark. The weight will wear down the user quick style with early fatigue. My wrist takes a beating just from a few minutes of full power swings with the monster. I know all of this makes it sound like I don't like the FFBM. But in fact I like my Sage FFBM very much. I just wont carry it on me very far ;) It is more suited for the Big HOGS  If you must have the biggest and baddest most indestructible knife around then the FFBM is it.

I just only wish that the CGFBM had a standard bevel instead of those Corrugated Bevels. I am only speaking from an aesthetics standpoint.

FSH, it's not the Busse Combat flagship blade for nothin'. It chops, it digs, it slices and it dices. Not too big to work like a smaller blade, not too small to chop firewood and shelter material.

CG FBM with the corrugations is awesome. It is my main user right now.

Wheeeew! Well that narrows it down a bit. ;) It looks like I will just have to make the rounds with each and see what "feels" right. I really liked the feel of the Dog Father but prefer a full tang to a stick tang and micarta over res-c. Thanks guys. :)

I think the CG FBM or the FBMLE would be your best bet.
Think you would be real happy with the CG.

The FFBM is way to heavy IMHO, put mine for sale the day I got it.

This is the best FBM I've swung to date...

And I've swung a few...

Still, you can't go wrong with any of them really. My least favorite is probably the BM-E, and it's still a good chopper. The CG's are a great combination of size and thickness, and short of a SHBM, it's the knife you can swing the longest without getting tired. The CG's are really going to be desirable one of these days. Get one while you still can.

I prefer the CG FBM to the LE and The FFBM, which I have used as well. I like the bevels, the way the coating wears looks really cool, and it's not too thick and heavy, like I feel the Fats are. It's also a better slicer and stabber with the thinner tip and swedge grind.

Check out how cool the coating looks after it wears away:
