Cobalt's Fault!

I'm still looking for "The" Ohio chopper, but I'll share what I've learned along the way. I've owned or handled the following Battle Mistress & such':

Straight Handle, Prototype, LE, Standard G10 FBM, Sage FFBM, FFBM with mags, Basic 9, standard Steelheart, SE Steel HeartRat Mastiff, Rat Daddy, Battle Rat, & Dogfather. I still need tot to try a standard mag G10 FBM and the LE. I currently have the Sage FFBM and for me personally it is too heavy to consider doing much heavy chopping with or carry around. I'm @6" and 220 and I think it'd wear me out pretty quick. The standard scaled FBM didn't quite do it for me either, felt like it need mag scales. The LE felt good, but a little neutral and a little thick in the scales. The FFBM with mags was way too thick for my short fingers (a Glock 21/20/30/29 is a little too big for me as well, but I love my XD .45). The straight handle was great, but after air chopping, I felt like it would pinch and it was worth too much as trade bait. I sold the Battle Rat because the Dogfather was a better chopper head to head. The Dogfather is a little heavy to carry around. I like the Basic 9, even if the handle is a little short. I tend to wear it when mowing grass. The Rat Mastiff is awesome and the Rat Daddy feels alot like the SHBM, minus the pinch. I think it's a poor man's SHBM. The SE steelheart felt too thick also. I liked the feel of the standard FSH, made me want to try a Heavy Heart.

To sum it up. Busse, I'd go with a standard FBM with Mag Scales. Swamp Rat I'd go with a Mastiff or Rat Daddy. Scrapyard Dogfather. It's really a matter of how much you want to spend. If I didn't already have one I'd snatch up the Rat Daddy that was on the exchange or one of the mag scaled FBM's.

I have a few FBMCG's and a Magnum EU-17.

I was chopping and throwing an FBMCG on the 4'th and I really felt it in my shoulder on the 5'th and 6'th.

I'm not ready to make my Magnum EU-17 in to a user but I have a feeling that it would be the ideal heft for prolonged heavy use.

I'm tempted to buy a BMe for a user. I think it would work very well for me.

The other option is to throw and chop untill I can do it every day without sore muscles.

I'm going to pass on the FFBM's, they just look too heavy. I might go for a 2007 SE, it looks awesome with the Double Cut finish.

I think the Dog Father and Battle Rat are a little too light to compare to the Battle Mistresses, but the Rat Mastiff may be another good choice (or Rat Daddy, but it's more expensive and hard to find).

1.) I have a few FBMCG's and a Magnum EU-17.

2.) I'm not ready to make my Magnum EU-17 in to a user but I have a feeling that it would be the ideal heft for prolonged heavy use.

1.) That's all you need :D

2.) Use that sucker or send it to me!!! :D I can personally vouch for the Eu Mag to be the perfect "light" big blade. It's quick in hand, has enough heft to do some damage, is thick...just a little over .25, and has THE best handle on a Busse to this day (in my humble opinion). I like the handles because you can choke back with your grip and you just got another 25% more chopping power. This is one knife you can chop with for HOURS. I took down most of a rather large tree with my user. It took me the better part of 4 hours. I didn't wear gloves and didn't experience any blisters or discomfort/hot spots. If one of the 26 others can be had....I'd highly recommend one :D. I won't be parting with my two. Unless another 1/300 SHBM comes up....hmmm....I'd still have ONE :p

I have not handled an FBM or FFBM yet but.... I have had a Dog Father, BM-E, RD-9, and a Battle Rat and the Dog Father wins hands down with me. That is, it just feels the best. I really like the forward weight. I do wish it had micarta or G-10 handles but then that might change the forward balance too much. I also like the straight handle on the DF. But I have an FFBM on the way, from a gracious HOG, to test drive as it were ;) .
