I bought this knife few days ago and plan to use it hard.Fit and finish along with high and thin hollow grind will make it wicked slicer.Handle is little slick, but fits the hand well and whole knife looks awesome!Very good buy for the price.Any opinions on the knife for hard use,and edc carry are welcome;)! Love cold steel blades and wish the old voyagers in vg1 are back.

Congratulations on your new knife, and thank you for choosing Cold Steel :)
The Code 4 is a popular choice here at CS HQ. Many of our employees carry them.
I personally carry 3-4 knives, including a smaller folder for general day to day cutting tasks. Right now, my choice for that role alternates between the Code 4 and the Mackinac Hunter
I've only been carrying the Code 4 since Christmas, but I've been very pleased so far
The handle is thinner and smoother than I am used to, but I found by gripping the pocket clip with my ring finger and little finger I get a pretty darn secure lock up.

Thanx for reply, although I own many other knives too, the Cold Steel ones are the ones I use and sometimes abuse too;).Never had any problems , and am trying to find couple plain edged old style voyagers, clip point.Great knives for the price! Love the high hollow grind on folders and how thin is it!Scary sharp.

I'm not into slick knives. You sound like you would like the size of the American Lawman. It's nearly perfect.

I like my Mackinac very much and want a Code 4. I just wish they were flat or sabre ground rather than hollow.

I am getting mackinac hunter too, have handled it the other day and its a nice knife. Will change the scales to wood probably!

There have been various mods done and shown on the web. All the best with it. Put some pictures up when you have done it.

So if the code 4 is such a success will you all considering doing a version with an upgraded blade steel?

I just received a Code 4 Spear Point today. The lock is so stiff I can't close the knife.

Try what he did in the video. Did it to mine and it is the smooothest knife I had ever held. Smoother than my ZT560 and broken in Emersons.
There's something wrong with this particular knife...I can't even get the lock to move when I press the bar on the edge of the kitchen counter. I'll have to send the knife back to the retailer open ! This one is defective.

Might be better/easier if you call Cold Steel's Customer Serveice and send it in to them.

Thanks Mike. These Triad locks have a great reputation all over the web...that's why I decided to go with a Cold Steel this time. I think I just got one out of tolerance which will happen with any manufacturer. I called the neighbor boy over this morning...and he can't even get the lock to move. Best to follow your advice before someone gets cut badly!

The back spring might have moved out of place. I've had this happen one time with a back lock and when i took it apart the spring worked it's way too far forward.

My Mackinac was too stiff to press at first. I could do it with a pen across the lock or the edge of a table. After leaving it half open for a week or so, working it and a little lubrication it has now broken in nicely.

I have the Code 4 Spear Point and haven't tried to change anything inside yet, tempted but not yet.

I used some Nano Oil 10 weight on the pivot area and also put a few drops down inside where the spring rubs against the lock bar, overall much smoother and still a very strong lock up.

IF I ever get to the point of taking it apart, hesitant to do so as I feel once you remove stuff, it seems to remember being free and will start removing itself during use ;) don't know if they have any Loctite applied to the screws? BUT what I would do would be similar to what the fellow in the video did, at least on the washers, I would use an ultra fine spyderco stone to lightly polish the washers, less material removed and you still have a mirror smooth finish on them, and for the lock bar spring? What I have in mind would be to gently radius the very end of the spring where it contacts the lock bar and also lightly sand down and polish up the area that the spring rides against, making it a very smooth action when opening or closing, so there wouldn't be any rough surface on either part, a bit more work to do in the factory but for an individual it might be worth it, but as I say, right now it's pretty smooth without having to disassemble the knife.

Love the spear point a lot so far, edge came acceptably sharp and will sharpen it more when it's necessary.
