Cody Lundin's original knife

The Mora is so light, it's a great neck knife. I actually prefer it there instead of the hip when using one.

My complaint is the sheath doesn't hold the knife very securely. Its ok for a storage container but I wouldn't carry one around my neck without replacing that.

Wouldn't you have to be upside down for it to fall out? What other options are there? I'd think Kydex would make it heavy around the neck. Maybe using a heat gun would let you mold it to a tighter fit?

Adhesive tape shims?

Puukot are commonly worn on a button inside the outer coat - point down. Hence the button hole on a leather tab found on many traditional sheaths.

A simple modification or sanding or scraping the handle a little thinner will make the knife fit very snugly
So it will not fall out as a necker
I then rub beeswax onto the wood
The thinning of the handle has no effect on the feel of the handle

How convenient is the Mora 1 around the neck vs wearing one on your hip?

Pretty darn convenient!

I've carried mine this way for a few years now. Never had it fall out or come lose unexpectedly, unlike my ESEE Izula. The friction fit in my experience is quite reliable.

And just because, pictures are fun.

I probably have 10-12 H.D. Companions and I set them up like this. Drop para across the front, bring around to the back and criss cross it, then pull the cord up under the clip, then slide on the retainer......Lately I have been using an old Combat Master short sheath for Mora's. A feather weight belt rig even with a pouch tin.

No way. I guess it all depends on your willingness in using "pretty" knives. I like them and enjoy using pretty knives more than those that are strictly utilitarian tools.

Sorry, didn't see this reply till now.

That is a very nice Puukko! It would be a great shame not to use it ;-)

I don't own a knife that hasn't been used. After getting use to my first Mora or the one pictured I just haven't used anything else. It's light, thin, sharp, easy to keep that way, and comfortable to use. I have a Buck, ESEE, BHK, and Condor amung a few others that all sit in a drawer or on a shelf. They have been used but I just kept going back to my cheap Mora. One day perhaps I will upgrade to a nicer slightly more robust version but for the past 5 years going it has been my most used fixed blade knife. I think what it comes down to is I'm not a big fan of modern blades, took a while to figure that one out.

My Classic came today and it's nice, but I'd probably buy the 612 if I were to to it again. The paint is slippery and I almost cut my finger taking it out of the sheath. The first thing I'm doing is taking that off.

OK, am I the only person here that has ever slipped on a steep slope? You don't have to be completely upside down for these to fall out of the sheath, just a good rough tumble will do it. But if you do all your hiking on nice groomed trails I guess you will be just fine.

I don't care for the sheath on the #1, on the #2 with a little push in, it holds securely. Excellent neck carry as previously mentioned.

I own the Classic now, but my carving knife has the same sheath. The reason I asked is because it didn't seem like it would fall out. What you said makes sense. It's something I'll have to be very conscious of.
