Here's the knife I sent off to the W&SS forums Maker Challenge last spring. Talk before the event was centered on a knife designed for slicing and bushcraft chores, heavy on the slicing. For those who followed the event, you know some knives were damaged during testing. I had made this knife for slicing by grinding the lower section to a thin slicing edge. What we didn't know is these knives would be used to chop and cut bamboo for a shelter. During the 'snap' cutting of bamboo, about 2 inches of the blade rippled. When I received it back, the rippled section would still shave hair!
So I took it to my shop and draw filed about 3/16" off the edge. Not only did I draw file up past the rippled area, but the edge is thicker and slightly convexed toward the edge. Now the blade is about .020 behind the edge and I sharpened it at a greater angle than normal so it will perform those bushcraft chores but yet still slice up your evening meal! This 52100 is remarkable steel!
I'm offering this knife up at a discount due to it being used in the past, even though I did give it a makeover. Also the heel of the knife rubs on the welt a little when inserting or withdrawing the knife from the sheath.
The handles are some I made myself. I made these out of Coffee Bag burlap. The colors you see in the handle are from the logo that was on the bag. I think it looks cool as did others who handled it. I contoured the handles so they would fit your hand and to reduce fatigue.
Comes with the handcrafted sheath pictured.
