Coffee maker suggestions

Looks like my Mr. Coffee is fixing to die. The coffee isn't coming out as hot as it used to and as a result is ruining my mornings:mad: So I'm looking for the best bang for the buck in coffee makers, my big requirement is that it makes coffee piping so that it isn't lukewarm after my half and half is added. Looking to keep it under $50 if this helps with suggestions. Timer is also essential as I'm a zombie till caffeinated.

I love the line from Keurig! Not in you price range, but excellent, hot coffee on demand. Worth a look at least. I know of several people who were skeptical when they bought them but now are converts, me included.

French press is always a possibility. Boil water, let it cool just to under boiling, pour it in, let it steep for a few minutes, press and drink. Presses aren't very expensive, either.

On the drill rig we just bought whatever Mister Coffee was cheapest at WalMart, about $15. Worked as well and lasted as long as any other coffee maker I've used. Spend a few dollars more and get one with a timer or other features if you want, but the coffee tastes the same in the end.

I get the impression you want a cheapo so get a smaller two cupper to 4 cupper drip they are the only cheap ones that get the water hot enough for a proper brew. Thats the only option I know of as far as crappos are concerned.

For the best control boil water in a kettle and then quickly pour over a cloth coffee filter into a carafe.

If your mister coffee is even more lukewarm than it's normal miserable lukewarm temp then you probably have scale build up inside the cheapo aluminum (boy does aluminum scale up) tube
If you are electrically and mechanically inclined find a way to remove and soak it in a descaling solution that will not eat away at the aluminum (another problem with aluminum)

You can also get a plug in timed outlet that the machine can plug into if the choices don't come with a timer built in.

Then you can enjoy that stale air oxidized pre ground folgers or whatever (even worse with decaf) in the morning.

I was in Sears today and they have some very nice Kenmore's on sale in that price range. I know it isn't a big name like Bunn but the Kenmore appliances are very well made.

You might also consider switching to a peculator coffee maker. Also as soon as your coffee is made decant it into a hot thermos carafe (prewarm with boiling water). I have one that will keep coffee hot all morning.

No take my advice you don't want a perc

we used a perc for yrs and it worked fine and kept the stuff hotter than my braun drip FWIW, when the braun goes out i very well might go back to a perc.

french presses work good if ya just wanna make one or 2 cups but i have never seen one big enough to make more than that.

also, try some hawaiian kona coffe or kona blends, available at HEB in my neck of the woods, once ya do ya will never go back to folgers/etc, it is about $2 to $4 more than the same size folgers FWIW & ya can brew it quite strong with no bitterness i highly reccomend the stuff.

I agree %100. I received one of these as a gift from my mom, and it has replaced every other coffee maker I have. I had one of those Bosch Porsche Design coffee machines, the Keurig one looks ten times better.
Bullet proof coffee machines, and you can even use your own coffee if you dont want to use the prepackaged K-cups.

The convienence of having the instant hot cup of coffee is unrivaled by any other machine out there. Literally 20 seconds at the most for a perfectly brewed cup! No waste of coffee to get a pot of strong stuff that gets stale quickly either.

I use a Senseo, it's a great coffee maker. It's single serve so it's perfect for us. I used to have a coffee maker that would brew an entire pot of coffee, but we'd end up throwing half of it away. With the pod/single serves you can get a whole bunch of different flavored coffees and not be tied to one flavor and have a whole bagful of it.

I love the Senseo!

It's hard to beat the Braun Aromaster series coffee makers for the price, they start at around $20, well designed, stylish, and use #4 cone filters (better than the basket type filters in my opinion). Mine has been going strong for about 10 years, and still piping-hot.

My mom had one of them hyper modern coffee jura wonder deals from italy, that went to s**t after 2 years(blown close to 1000 Bucks for that piece of s**t), so she got out the 18 year old Braun Aromaster, that is still going strong(and the coffee tastes better too).
But if you ask me, you cant beat the coffee out of an old tin percolator.

Grinder and a french press...

I agree, for the best tasting, hottest coffee, you can't beat a french press and fresh ground beans. I've had a Nissan Stainless Insulated Press now for well over 15 years (it's travelled with me all over the world!), much better than the Bodum in my opinion (doesn't break when dropped and keeps the coffee hot for hours). It sells for about $30.

Do you have hard water?

If so you could just have mineral deposits building up on the coils. If you don't mind the maker and don't want to buy a new one you can try putting vinegar in it and letting it run to dissolve the calcium etc.

If you do it I suggest you put it outside because the hot vinegar fumes can choke you up some.

Just a thought to try and fix it in our disposable society...

:D:D

We love our K cup maker!!

I did a crap load of research before I bought the coffee maker I have right now. My wife and I are very much coffee drinkers and would easily kill a man to get that first cup of the day. So after both our 'college specials' that were only coffee makers in the academic sense, this was the real deal.

Ignore all others in this thread (except a grinder and french press, that's always a good option), and go for KRUPS!!!!!!!

I got this guy and love it:

It makes a really awesome cup of joe. Has a filter system in it (don't worry, you don't have to buy expensive filters once a week or anything) to take care of the quality of your water. Heats the water to a much more appropriate temperature. Programmable in every way needed.
