Coffee Makers

Right. Have to offset my computer/software headaches by keeping it simple in the coffee department--inexpensive, easily interchangeable parts.:) This set-up theoretically makes 8-12 cups according to the filter size. Did Santa bring you a new coffee maker?

No. So I'll be looking for a Bunn with the insulated pot.

I have pretty much decided on a Bunn like Bob W with the insulated pot. The one thing I want to check is that I can fit my hand inside to scrub it out good. If not, I'll look for something else.

I've been using a Bonavita insulated carafe maker for the last year. Love it. One of the few home brewers that gets water hot enough for a proper extraction. I grind with a Baratza Preciso, which handles my drip coffee as well as being able to grind fine and consistently enough for proper espresso extraction. I also have a Chemex and French Press to fiddle around with when I get bored. ;)

If you want to get into the serious coffee making business at home, try roasting your own beans. http://www.sweetmarias.com/airpop/airpopmethod.php
I find unroasted beans at a local Ethiopian grocery store or you can buy them online.

I have been roasting my own beans for quite some time now. I use a roaster by Nesco, and purchased that and my green beans from www.burmancoffee.com.
The cost per pound is cheaper than buying a pound of a more expensive coffee at home. I've always used drip coffee makers, and have been doing some research. I finally splurged and bought what is considered the best home coffee maker out there....the Technivorm Moccamaster. I had been eye balling it for a few years now. It's hand built in the Netherlands, and meets SCAA home brew standards. It's quite awesome. If you all drink is Folgers or Maxwell House, then this isn't for you, but if you love coffee and all that it entails, then this might be what you want. All the research I've done always ranks this at the top of home brew systems.

Just my opinion and what I like. Hope this may help someone out there.

Just replaced our sub $10 Proctor-Silex after a decade or so cause the pot broke. Bought one of those Mr. Coffee programmable makers. I like Sumatra, but Maxwell House breakfast blend comes in a close second. The water does make a difference.
