Coffee

Nice pic of the beans and I like the background too.

That looks like a course french press grind. I grind to #3 so I can use for both of my Moka pots and my aeropress.

Nice color. What does the savoia blend taste like?

The reviews on the Rok seem to be correct. It doesn't make a $500.00+ espresso but its the among the best for under $500.00. The longer term reliability seems questionable. All the metal has a 10 year warranty but the weak link is the plastic seal and plastic plunger which isn't covered.
But if you want an alternative, decent espresso, nice looking, portable, enjoy the labor, and under $500.00 you might want to look into the Rok more. I would buy again.

Unfortunately my grinder won't adjust any finer.:( I'm going to see if there's a way to fix it. Probably be throwing it in the recycle bin shortly. That'll give me an excuse to pick up some proper equipment anyway!

I found a Lello Ariete Burr Coffee Grinder for pretty cheap. It was less than $40 NIB.

Post breakfast shot.

Post dinner shot. No filter on pic.

What is this "left over coffee" you speak of? :D I would be afraid of being stuck down in the street or hit by lightning for committing such a crime!! :D
Its either that or very little sleep. Nothing like tossing and turning all night with a brain that won't shut down.

My favorite coffee shop ran out of the stuff that I sent to mono but they just got in another single source coffee from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

What I like about the roaster is they work hard to buy coffee and create an industry in areas of Africa that were formerly war torn and rife with civil war.

I happened to be in Prescott yesterday and decided to check the coffee at Trader Joe. They had some Kauai coffee for what seemed like a reasonable price. It was about
1/3 the price of their Kona coffee, so I bought a bag. Their medium roast is a bit lighter than what I'm used to, but it is pretty good. (IMHO, of course.)

I really want a TiSpine.
But your picture gives me some good ideas for this thread. Fun.
Fun, exactly!

Nice, coffee with a conscience. Real fair trade.
This thread has motivated me to fight the traffic and search out for some unique beans. When I find something good I would like to join the coffee exchange if possible. I have already mapped out a strategic course that will let me visit 2-3 gourmet coffee shops in a day. I will post pics when I can.

Finished watching season 2 of Dangerous Grounds. They can make an exciting show. Looks like Todd Carmichael likes his knives too. Most of the time they are covered by his hand but in the Mayan Fortress season 2 episode 6 you can clearly see he has an assisted benchmade with serrrations.

My morning cup of joe thanks to my aeropress.
My process sounds counter intuitive but with the metal filter use it upside down with the plunger on the bottom. Not necessary for paper but do this for the metal filter so all the coffee doesn't pour out before you fill the container up with water.

Fill with either #1 ground coffee for the paper filter or #3+ ground coffee for the metal filter.

Add your water just enough to cover the grounds to let them bloom and wait around 30 seconds.

Add more water and stir simultaneously for around 30 more seconds.

Carefully place metal filter and filter cap on.

Turn over and place on top of mug and press the plunger down with even pressure.

Enjoy!

I was able to take a Coffee tour of supposedly the top 3 gourmet Coffee places in downtown, LA. I had an espresso at each place and you can imagine I was moving pretty fast by the end .

G&B Coffee. Ethiopian Borboya 2, $3.75. Highlights of tartness with candied lemon, apricot, ginger.

Stumptown Coffee and roasters. House blend, $3.00. My favorite with highlights of chocolate, nuts, floral, fruit.

Handsome Coffee and roasters. Espresso Dandy, $3.00. My least favorite with highlights of pepper, spice, rhubarb,
fruit taffy.

I hit a coffee big roaster here in St. L. They had an overwhelming variety to pick from. I ended up getting
-New Guinea Pacific Rim
-Sumatra
and their House Special blend.

Sounds like a fun adventure. Would you be interested in a trade? If anyone wants to do an exchange just let me know?

I'll take a walk to my local shop tomorrow and see if they have anything interesting PrimitiveEnergy. I'll get back to you if they do. ;)
