Coffee

Hi Joshua, I know a little about plastic feet, bone grafts, skin grafts, coffee, and traditional knives. In no particular order. For pain I drink coffee and buy knives. Merry Christmas coffee crew.

I haven’t tried that one on my wife yet... Wisdom has been dropped in this eve thread.

Hey fellas,
Hope everyone has had an excellent Christmas!
Quick question,
I got my wife a ninja coffee bar... and I went to make a pot of coffee for us, it runs for 10-20 seconds and then beeps 5 times and stops. I googled and the only things I found were that the drip stop is closed (it’s not), the filter head isn’t inserted properly (it is), the water tank is empty (it’s filled to the max line), or a guy on YouTube suggested the valve on the water tank has gunk in it, I checked and it seems to be flowing well. Does anyone here have one of these and have any ideas?
If I just keep turning it back on it will eventually brew a pot, but something isn’t right.
Thanks for your input guys

IMAG2453.jpg Make sure your water tank is locked in. Rotate it clockwise until it snaps in. That's what it is!! I have a Ninja too. Mine is a bit different than yours.

I hope everyone enjoyed our secret Santa this year. We will do a lighter version this summer if you want to play!!
I am always open for a swap of some kind if you feel the urge!! ;)

I've been thinking about picking up a hand operated burr grinder to have something that is more portable. I figure it would also be good to have on hand as a backup for those rare instances when the power goes out. The Hario Skerton and Mini Mill get generally good reviews. Any other manual grinders that I should be looking into?

I had an ebay special for a while. Although it didn't last forever - it made coffee into fine powder if you needed it to. Wide range of adjustments but kind of a pain in the ass to adjust. I think I paid under $10.
I was also looking at the Harios.

I got a Red Rooster Camano for Christmas and it is great. American made and seems to be pretty high quality so far. My introduction to coffee grinders, and I can't believe the difference between this and regular pre-ground coffee.

That Camano looks pretty nice and I like the whole wood and mason jar theme that they offer on the coffee gear. It's more than I want to spend for a travel/backup grinder even though it seems like a good value for a US made product. I also think it's awesome that they made the effort to bring the production back here after originally making it overseas.

A burr grinder does make a huge difference. Coffee loses flavor through oxidation and more surface area = faster oxidation. Here's a link with some more detailed info if you're interested. https://handground.com/grind/the-chemistry-of-grinding-coffee-beans Something else to think about is how long that pre-ground (or even whole bean) coffee has been sitting around in warehouses and store shelves. Fresher is definitely better.

The next big jump for me after that was changing my brewing method. Using a method that gives you control over the water temp helps a lot. It takes more work and you can't set it up the night before to be ready when you wake up, but I think it's worth it.
