Coffee

This coffee is an odd duck. It says espresso blend but doesn’t have any of the qualities associated with espresso type beans. It says dark roast, but is very light. I made a 32 oz Yeti cup full - 20 minutes later I made another! Very good coffee!! Thanks @joeldworkin307

James does a wide variety of coffee related subjects including equipment reviews, brewing techniques, and his weird coffee science series.

I tried slow feeding beans into the grinder (although probably not as slow as he did) and did get a coarser grind than what I normally would for that setting.

I actually prefer making it in the jar and filtering afterwards. When I used that cold brew pitcher with the mesh filter, I felt that it needed to be ground as coarse as possible and even then it still ended up a bit silty. I've been grinding finer and brewing for a shorter time using the jar, plus it's easier to just shake it and mix everything once or twice during the brew as opposed to the grinds being stuck in the filter core.

I haven't had that problem with the pitcher I bought. It has a really fine plastic mesh, and even with a drip grind, I don't get hardly any silt. However, I'm not a fan of putting the pitcher in the fridge, as it concerns me that it will get broken. It's thin borosilicate glass, and I might just give the mason jar a try.

It's not a lot of silt, but enough to make it slightly cloudy. Definitely less than using a french press. I think the bigger difference was using a finer grind since I was going to filter it anyway. My pitcher is plastic, so no worries of it breaking.

I was thinking about trying to make some coffee kombucha.

Sounds interesting.

Sounds interesting.
It’s not as easy as tea kombucha. We have been making that for a while

I had a feeling you'd like that! :D  The cocoa nibs add another dimension. I generally don't care for "flavored" coffees, but this is something pretty unique. The smell in the bag is out of this world!
