Coffee

That's a beautiful knife, Barman1. I'm a sucker for orange. Goes well with the clean lines of your simple, white coffee cup.

I thought I would be all politically correct and try Peet's Fairtrade Blend:
"Only the finest Fair Trade-certified coffees from small farm co-ops in Central America make it into our blend.
Flavor Notes
Bright yet balanced, with a lemony tang that mellows to a smooth, round finish."

I find it to be a little harsh and acidic without the complex flavors of their single origin coffees.

Was over in Napa yesterday, so I picked up some beans.

This particular coffee is very mild, a medium roast, a good coffee for those who don't normally drink strong coffee. So I use about 50% more in my French press or drip coffee maker.

I've tried a couple of Napa Valley's coffees, and they are not going to get my business from Peet's. I would not go out of my way to get to their coffee shops. But if you happen to be at 1st and Main in Napa, this shop is great alternative to the Starbuck's across the street.

Morning, all! I have a question. Is there one coffee that is widely considered to be the best tasting coffee in the world? Where is it from, is it available, and how much does it cost? I'd like to say I had a cup of the best coffee in the world, bragging rights, ya know.:D

You could fill that gap with some Kona or Blue Mountain, or maybe pick up some Gesha from Stumptown?? All good choices but are on the expensive side.

I do have the Blue Mountain and like it a lot. I also picked up some Peetes Sumatra today, about the only grind I haven't tried yet. Looking forward to it in the morning. So far, though, my daily go to is Peetes MD, just a nicely roasted blend with a nice aftertaste. You guys got me started on this coffee kick, and it's been fun, so thank you, guys!

The Peet's Sumatra Batak is a little more expensive, and worth every penny. In the past, it was called Sumatra Blue Batak. I thought that maybe that indicated a Jamaican Blue Mountain origin of that strain of Arabica, but I don't know for sure. Lately, they just call it Sumatra Batak. It is named for the Batak people who grow the coffee in this part of Sumatra/Indonesia.

Some years, it comes as late as early February. But I think it is now the regular January special at Peet's.

There are some excellent reviews out there. Just search for "Peet's Sumatra Batak."

Dr. Scott - David Stifle - - I hope you guys stick around for the next Christmas exchange! We only had 5 people last year and it was a blast.

Wayne, I'm still waiting to see that new knife! :D

It's not as photogenic as I thought it would be but I'll get a shot in a few minutes. Water's just off the boil....

I got my Peet's delivery on Monday and the Mcusta arrived yesterday. Can't say which was more exciting. ;)
Had another pound of a medium roast that I can't remember in the delivery but that was used to blend with a Costa Rican Tarrazu that was a little too bitter. The medium roast calmed it right down and I'm enjoying a cup right now before work.

The Mcusta is nice...after I tweaked it a little.
Serious lock stick so I took it apart and carbidized the lock bar and all is well.
Also, I opened the medium roast foil bean bag with it and the frikkin' edge rolled. First cut! Kind of typical of a factory edge that's ground too thin but it was a breeze to knock off the roll and get a steeper, more robust 20 dps edge. Seriously sharp. Treetops the arm whiskers now. :D
Overall it's a well designed knife with a great finish and now that I've got it where I want it it's a keeper.

I'm game, but I don't know what I could exchange that you fellas don't already have. (We are talking a coffee exchange right? Because if it's knife's, I could blow some of you fellas away:))

It's fun. We set a minimum limit. It all starts on page 49-50 of this thread. You send whatever you can part with- knives and coffee. In fact, I am going to start "collecting" soon.

I like it BM. The scales are cool.

I will be here next Xmas. Funny, I didn't realize this thread goes back so far...

Coffee is like a knife. Tastes change, and what was your favorite last year may fall out of the rotation... But I like to think that my knowledge of knives and coffee are both improving as I age. And all the experience and opinion here in the forum is a big help.

Well, I like Ethiopian coffee, but I have been told that Catchit Coffee is pretty good.
