I've never been much for coffee, but over the last three or four weeks, I've been swilling it. I was sharing with a co-worker that when I have the late shift, I consume what I think of as large quantities of coffee. Today it was 8 cups between 8 and 1.

What is the consenus of the Cantina? How much coffee is too much coffee?

Eight cups of "lifer juice" a day, no worries, eight cups in five hours, no bueno amigo.

Well 45-70, on a per day basis, I would guess anything under a pot is ok, as long as you Re-hydrate yourself, but when you start getting into the two pot range, then you're in trouble. Caffeine is dehydrating; messes with your sleep/wake cycle and can make you moody. That said, it's been my best friend lately. I had a term paper due last Sunday, one due next Sunday and a huge group project due the Tuesday after that. Stress + overwork = need for caffeine. PS: I’m fond of the McDonalds coffee in my area, but I have had it in Toronto and Chicago and felt both places served swill. Now that I think of it, I tried eight different places for coffee while I was in Chicago, and none of them had a decent cup of Joe. Not sure why.

When I was working shifts in a hospital, in 7 hours I would drink roughly 12 cups. Sometimes a few espresso as well.

Its probably too much when you start feeling jittery. I generally go with 3 mugs in the morning and 1 in the afternoon.

6-10 cups every mornin', with Starbuck's Lattes PRN through the day.
Yup, another shameless caffiene addict.

The 2 tsps sugar in each cup are prob worse for me than the coffee itself, but, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Man, I love coffee. However, it doesn't really wke me up. It never has. Instead it calms me down and gives me a mild euphoria. I think it's some sort of synergy effect as I am a pretty tightly wound guy. I drink about 3 mugs in the morning, and s trong cup of Chai tea when i get home.
Now if I drink a couple of Red Bulls like i generally do during the peak of my work season, then i get energetic, but wound tighter:eek: My co-worker calls it "Jake's angry juice"...at least he does until i break out the shackles;)
I'd say you're OK until you start getting the jitters. ALso, be careful with it if you have any heart problems. Like others have said, drink plenty of water, too.

Like the guys said, you'll feel it when you've had too much. You'll get the jitters, and you'll have to pee so often it'll annoy you. Hydration is key. I only have two cups of cofee per day, but that's because I have ~3 nice beers every evening, so its just easier for me to get dehydrated. I drink lots of water too, and find that if i'm beat in the afternoon, and my eyes are wiggling plain water will go a long way to waking me back up. YMMV.

I get the beans green, roast them, grind them, and drink 3/4 of a pot each day.

Course, my pot of coffee is a little darker than what you typically see...

I,m an eight cups a day guy . On a long day 10 cups . Lets make it clear though . Are we talking those break your wrist mega-mugs people carry around these days or an actual cup as a unit of measurement . I know a guy who only drinks one mug a day . Its a giant Tim Hortons coffee mug that is normally used to be used as a ten cups thermos . 5.49 to fill it .
Like the gentleman said re=hydration is essential . water first thing , with meals and last thing in the day .
B:T:W: Tim Hortons rules . If they hadda stayed a donut shop they would have taken over the world . Now it just might be the Universe .

I need more coffee if I am going to stay awake long enough for the YBBDOTD !

Darn ! missed 2 of those by minutes ! :grumpy:

I have heard that Tim's is the true stuff.
Never made it up over the border to try it, though.

I go through at least 24 "cups" a day. I drink it room temperature or colder in a 64ounce mug.
Anything worth doing is worth doing to excess.
To anyone who disagrees, I must ask: "How many khukuris do you have?"

I have 4 khuks........but 24 cups a day ? @.@.......

Thanks guys

I made a mistake though, I was at work by noon, left the house at 11, so I had finished the coffee before then.

I was a bit concerned because of the headaches and blurred vision, but if you guys can take it so can I! (slight joke).

In all seriousness I've decided that no more than 6 a day is enough, and I'm measuring using the markings on the coffee pot.

ROTFLMAO. You guys got me splitting a gut here. Munk as a Cajun, I'm impressed. I like mine dark as hell too. I would rather drink a coke than anything from McDonalds. That light brown watery stuff just isn't cofee to me. I like the gritty Turkish stuff sometimes too. Now that's strong.

Mings, how very Roman of you! I like it. I heard a quote once that said, "Great things are never done by reasonable people." I don't know who said it, but its hard to deny the truth hidden there.

Tim Hortons is a working mans coffee . Y.all go in there and ask for a nonfat soy latte and you are gonna get a slap ! L:O:L This is just good full bodied dark roasted deeeeeelicious coffee . It is my personal theory that it is a coffee that is roasted just shy of burning . In other words its a milder tasting brew that relies on the roasting for its full flavour . If you buy the coffee and make it at home you have to use a fair amount per pot and an exact amount .

Tim Hortons wiped Dunkin Donuts off the map up here . Personally I
don,t think you can compare the two . Dunkin was kinda resting on its Laurels when Bad boy Timmy came along .
