I am possibly the last person to realize this, but I just bought an Opinel #7 Slim-Line carbon bladed knife at Sportsman's Warehouse in a Coghlan's blister pack for 11.99 as a "Camp Knife". "Coghlan's Made in France by Opinel" on the handle, Opinel France and the three finger/crown logo on the blade. I have plenty of knives, but always thought an Opinel would be a good user and didn't know of any local source, nor did I want to pay shipping nearly the cost of the knife to order one online. Just thought I'd share, hope it helps someone who may be in the same boat. I'd imagine they're sold other places that sell Coghlan's camping gear, too, just never thought to look before I happened upon this one today.

I picked up a few of them when the SW's in Texas went under. They have all been "adopted" by friends...I want another one...

I saw them yesterday at a sporting goods sale.Opinel right on the blade. Also had a Swiss army type knife with saw blade in the Coghlan brand. Now I wonder if these were real SAKS. I hate blister packs. Should have opened it up anyways. A person should be able to examine something before he is expected to purchase it.

Cold Steel had a opinel design knife that was carbon steel and a composite handle , it was a well made knife and very sturdy but still a design theft at best.
I will have to look around for the blister pack Openiels.

Glad I saw this post, I didn't realize they were Opinels either, I've seen them before, but just assumed they were cheap made in china knock-offs or something, just picked one up tonight, great knives for the price.:)

I don't either, but they had them at Sportsman's warehouse and they have them on Amazon.com in the Coghlan's package for around the same price.

Yeah, the Coghlan's Opinel is cool.

I prefer it, the combination of the Slimline/Effile handle with the Standard/yataghan blade, to the standard configuration.

which I am currently enamored of. I own about 10 of them and have another 8 or so waiting to give out to family and friends. I am glad to have come across this recent thread regarding the Coghlan's Opinel iteration. I think I will order a couple to add to my small collection. If I order two from Amazon, there is no freight. Yeah !

dougo83, try running "coghlan camp knife" thru a popular search engine and I think you'll find them!
